still in constant pain 3 months later :'(

I am writing this as I really am so fed up today and need to share my story, so apologies if its a bit long!
Last August I had a laparoscopy to diagnose the reason for my heavy, painful periods. This showed I had some adhesions, a small amount of endometriosis, and a polyp which they removed. Two weeks after this, I started having a very dull ache in each side of my groin. The only way to bexplain it is to say that it felt like my ovaries ached, always worse on the left side, but the right side did hurt occasionally as well. After several trips to the doctor, the gyn eventually decided to try me with monthly injections of prostap, the idea was to shrink the endo, which would hopefully reduce my pain. but, the pain never went away.
Eventually after a trip to casualty one night, and constant visits to my gp, my gyn decided to give me a total abdominal hysterectomy, but leave my ovaries in place. I was delighted, as I thought this would surely get rid of my pain, the gyn did warn me that this may not be the case, but i was willing to take that chance.
I had my op on 1st Feb, everything went well, and in spite of a little healing problem on my wound, i recovered quite well. However, at around 3 weeks post op, I felt the familiar pain I had had before the op. I dismissed it and thought it was just a healing pain.
Time went on and I realised the dull constant ache was still there, I saw my gyn, who explained that there really was nothing there that could be hurting and maybe I had IBS ? He also expained to me that when they had removed the womb, and examined it there was no endometriosis, but quite alot of fibroids
I researched IBS, and really did not feel like this was what is wrong. My own gp has now reffered me to a gastroentologist, who is going to carry out some tests to see if my pain is bowel related. But there is quite a long wait for the tests, scans etc, and in the meantime I am sat at home, unable to work in this constant pain.
I know that I am no doctor, but I do think I know how i feel, and I really do not think this pain is related to my bowels. I am still sure that the pain is from my ovaries, but am going to go through the bowel tests just to rule that out.
Just before my op, I was taking oramorph and MST, and am really trying to avoid taking these again, but the pain is getting unbearable. sometimes i feel like i am in the early stages of labour!
The pain also radiates into the top of my legs, and my lower back. I am so fed up with it now, and feel like a hypochondriac!, i am so tired, and its affecting my family. my husband has been great, and i have 3 teenagers, who i am sure are sick of seeing their mum ill all the time, or in bed!
I just want to go back to work and have no pain at all! I am only 39.
Sorry for the length of this, i just needed to get everything out!
so glad i found this site by the way.
xxxxxx

One of the best things you can do right now is keep a detailed symptom diary. This can help your doctors "see" what is going on and thus help with diagnosing and treatment.

It is possible that even though endometriosis wasn't seen, it was still there. Not all doctors know how to recognize and locate all of the implants.

I can also share with you that IBS can be horrifically painful and may feel like labor pains. I have literally seen stars and almost lost consciousness with IBS pain. You might want to follow an IBS type diet to see if it does at least help with symptoms right now while you are working toward a diagnosis.

My goes out to you and I hope you find some answers soon!

Re: still in constant pain 3 months later :'(

loveheart,

I am sorry that you are in pains and your doctor could not help. Myself just had hysterectomy this February and still have some pains, my belly is swelling and always hurt on right side. My doctor told me it's normal because I am using my muscle and it's still healing. But it's been 3 months!

Take care and good luck to your recovery.
