Bowel Mvements

How long before you have a bowel movement and does it hurt? I am a week post op and feel constipated. I've been taking the colace my doctor told me to take.

Today they are starting to move a bit. I'm in a lot of pain with them trying to move.

Do I have to worry about straining or the pain.

Get some Miralax. A lot of surgeons recommend it. It is very gently, all ready has a stool softener in it and is non-habit forming. Trust me you will feel a lot better. I was miserable until I had regular bowel movements. Its just goes in your drink daily, water, juice whatever. Its tasteless and works wonders! Hope you find relief soon!

Not to be indelicate, but I felt like I had given birth, but afterwards I feel so much better! I worried about stitches and fear the next one will be just as bad.

Prune juice I think was what worked and possibly bad Indian food?

Keep taking the stool softeners that your recommended, drink plenty of water, and walk as much as you can. Those should help your bowels start to move.

It can be quite painful the first few times...you definitely do NOT want to strain though...no pushing!!

I hope things start "working out" for you very soon. I know how uncomfortable it can be.
