Mixed Feelings - Who Cares?

On joining this site, I had met some great "Systers" through HysterSysters....they have each, had their surgery, some months ago & have moved on in their lives.

I had become resigned, to the fact that I would NOT possibly, be having the Hysterectomy - that is until a letter came through my door telling me, to be at the hospital for a Pre Op on 15th February. It says to have 2 hours free & that the date will be given then. I am told the date is very soon after, as in days or 2 weeks.

My GP has said NOT to have the surgery, because I am coming off steroids & it is still NOT known what type of connective tissue disease I might have. He says to have the surgery in the future as I am presently under a lot of stress. It is the Waiting....that has got me so Anxious.

The Gynae Ob. will do this surgery. I do NOT like the hospital but am having one of the best Surgeons. There had been a "a sign of No Confidence" in the Management of this hospital - so the newspaper said & as I had made a complaint....I have got myself in an awful state, about this pending surgery.

Enlarged Uterus - Elevated CA125 - One painful fibroid - Periods, seem to have stopped...tells me I need my Uterus removing. I also look as if I am ready to have a baby any day soon. The pain is often unbearable so something is not right.

NOT sleeping - no support at home & Stress, has me struggling to make the right decisions. I was so ready for this surgery, some months ago.

Has anyone else, felt like this? I am meant to be having an Epidural - for the surgery, is said to be approx 1 hour. Yet, i am now reading, that Surgeons do NOT know what is wrong, until they look? General Anaesthetic, has always been bad for me. I am praying the Anaethetist will still be able to do an Epidural. Feeling very afraid....Is there anyone, who can suggest a way I might feel in control?

Just 2 weeks ago, i had 20 lots of blood taken. The nurse taking it did not use an Antiseptic wipe or even wash her hands...later, I was sick. All this has caused a Major setback. :confuse:

Any advice would be really appreciated - As this surgery is badly needed. The Gynae. will NOT give me HRT. He does not believe in it - so there will be a surgical menopause, too? The Ovaries are being taken? & donna42

Mixed Feelings - Who Cares?

Hi Donna,
I can tell you that you have hundreds here who care about you and what you are going through. None of us may be able to stand by your side and give a shoulder to lean or cry on but we are all with you through our thoughts and prayers. We have all had our own personal battle with the thoughts of this surgery and all the pain we have endured before it. For many of us it has been a long time coming and is actually being looked forward to because of all the pain we have been in. We figure things can only get better. We are all there with you.

Mixed Feelings - Who Cares?

Donna 42,
I am so sorry you are going through all this and not having any support at home. All the sisters here will support you they are terrific. Is there any other hospital that you can have your surgery done in? I would suggest that your GP talk to your gyn, they will if you voice a concern over 2 conflicting reports that you have received. Take care, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Marie 10

Mixed Feelings - Who Cares?

Hi Donna -

The support you get here will be wonderful - it helps compensate for what little support you are receiving at home. I am new here, and already my anxieties, though still there, are not as pronounced as they were before reading the great words of encouragemet.

You said you are not comfortable with the hospital where your surgeon practices (great word, huh?). That's not a worry you need going into surgery - there are enough other things to worry about! Would you consider a different hospital? I know you like the surgeon, but it seems as if your compromising on one aspect of the whole thing, when, in my opinion anyway, there is no room for compromise when it comes to surgery and the hospital. I was in the same predicament - though not crazy about any doctors locally, and not at all comfortable with the local hospital, I am opting for hospital and a surgeon that are over an hour away from my home. No hospital is perfect, but you don't need the added stress when faced with all you have thrown at you right now. At least THAT part of the deal is in your control. Have you researched the hospital itself? Looked to see if it is accredited, find out their infection rate, etc?

I am so sorry you do not have the support you very much need at home. Come here, and come here often - no one understands the fear us Ladies in Waiting have more than the HysterSisters!

Your Messages have helped More than U Know...Thanx

Dear ((Systers))

My surgery is desperately needed - yet, we do not get to choose hospitals here in England UK...or at least I have been told that is the case.

Having had fibromyalgia for over 10 years - rheumatologist has now said, this is NOT so. Blood tests are showing ANA 1/1000 and liver enzymes are elevated...I dont even alchohol at all. Rheumy. had given steroids & now- the liver specialist, has just stopped them - so I am

How can DH NOT understand the deep pain I am feeling. My biological MuM, died at the same hospital having given birth to me...she was given the wrong blood Transfusion at the age of just 29 years. I feel so silly BUT having made a compaint against this hospital I am now scared to go ahead with treatment. (I do NOT usually complain) and consider myself to be a caring person.

The Maternity part of the hospital could be closing. I have met with the Gynae. Onc. who tells me, he will do the least invasive surgery. A part of me had wanted to have this Surgery in the USA where things are much different. Most of my family live there - they get to see their medical records & they get to leave the hospital quite soon to

You are ALL so kind....My flight to the USA has now been cancelled as once the Pre Op has been done surgery will follow within about 2 weeks. Pre Op date is 15th of February...Diazepam has been prescribed. I should be so happy. Please, pray I can attend the Pre Op...?

Just knowing i am NOT alone helps so much.

Thankyou - Thankyou ,so much donna42

If you did come to the states How would You pay for the surgery? Do you have insurance? because if you have ins in the UK you can choose the dr and hospital that You want. My former pediatrician went to med school in Ireland and was telling me that sometimes it is worth it in Eire and UK to purchase ins for this type of situation and You are always given the first opportunity. .
Good luck with Your pre op

Am So Stressed - Your Info. was helpful

Dear (( Celticd))

When traveliing to the USA I always, carry good insurance. I am waiting, until it is a little later here, and am going to enquire, about cost - when seeing specialists here, I have previously settled payment in Cash... This will take, my savings BUT, could be another move, forward.

Having read a post that says, Cathy was in the Operating Room for many hours - I need to try & calm down, and to be realistic, about how badly this surgery needs doing. Running aways - is now not the answer

Everything around me, seems to be breaking...I KNOW this surgery really HAS to be done - smears, have been left and other symptoms are now showing. Having gone thru the Menopause - somebody, had told me everything, would settle down on its own.

When first posting....I felt extremely alone...still do - because, this decision needs to be made today. Just talked with the hospital & they said ... other women have also felt or reacted, in a similar way to me...that they had sent me an early appointment because, of another persons cancellation. Apparently my low grade tissue disease could/possibly be because of Enlarged Uterus - Fibroid and Endo.

Thankyou... so much, for taking the time, to message me...it is kind, of you. & My GP says, I am suffering depression - I feel so silly ... Once, I have made the decison, to have surgery or NOT - I am sure, some of these awful anxiety attacks, might calm down. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE WROTE A MESSAGE...I AM TAKING A LITTLE INFO. FROM EACH.
