Oops...one more question

I'm a single mom...with a 6 year old.

Anyone out there whose gone through this type of surgery who has any helpful hints on taking care of young ones during recovery...I need your advice!

The first week he'll be with his father. The second and third week he'll be back with me..with father taking him to and from school..
Then I'm on my own?

Help!

I'm having hysterectomy. Uterus only. Fibroid problem that has gotten completely out of control. So...best to just remove the fertile ground. Past childbearing age...so that's not an issue.

I have 4 kids ages 9, 7, 5, and 3!

I am 2 weeks and 3 days post op. My sister-in-law kept them for me while I was at the hospital and for three days after I got home.... then I was on my own! My husband is an over the road truck driver so he's only home about 2 nights through the week and then he's home all weekend.

I must say that sometimes they are too much for me to handle. When it gets to be too much (fighting, yelling, and other loud "kid stuff) I go into my bedroom, turn the stereo up really loud, lock the doors and lie on the bed relaxing and taking deep breaths. It really does help!

The oldest 2 are great about taking care of the younger two... fixing them sandwiches and pouring them drinks. I'm up and around now and have been for about six days.... sometimes I do overdo it though.

And I'm thankful that it's Friday night and my dh is home for the weekend! *yay* He'll be keeping care of the kids and cleaning house the whole time he's home! Ain't he a peach?!!!

young child at home

Hi Sept

When I came home from hosp. my DH had to go back to work. He had already taken lots of time off visiting me in the castle etc. That left me at home with my 6 year old son. It was actually a blessing to me. He kept me entertained and distracted at times. I also rented lots of videos and let him blob out in front of the tube when I felt I needed to rest. I decided to use this time to help him develop some new skills. I asked him to help me out in various ways, such as making sure I had water at all times, carrying things etc. He went above and beyond my expectations, taking the initiative to do other things that he thought of, such as making me toast. This made him feel very grown up and helpful, and he could do these things without me nagging him about getting crumbs all over the place etc. His other jobs were reading me stories and folding laundry. It has been a wonderful opportunity for him to take care of me, and we have felt very close. It is incredible to see how sweet he can be. I was also fortunate to have a few good friends come to pick him up for play dates when I felt he might have needed a bit more stimulation.
Finally, I took him to my pre-op appt and the doctor told him that she needed him to help her out by looking after me. Perhaps your little one will be equally helpful. Keep us posted. Pat
