Counting down the days...

Hi,
I am having a total hysterectomy September 29th. I have day's when I am nervous and days when I am fine. Is this normal?
Also, tomorrow I go see the gyno at 10AM forpre-op stuff then to the hospital for pre-admission. What will the gyno do tomorrow and what aboout pre-admission, what will they be doing?
Thanks,
Diane

Counting down the days...

Diane,

My surgery is Oct 1. I too am counting the days and becoming a bit more nervous. I've had 5 surgeries in my past, so it isn't anything super new, but I am still nervous - that's normal. I can totally relate to counting the days!

Pre-op is a great time to ask any questions you might have. Also, have the doctor completely explanin what s/he will be doing. Be sure you have an agreement/understanding about what you will or will not be keeping. If you hope to keep your ovaries, be sure you have an agreement with your doc about what circumstances might be OK to take them out, etc.

I can't remember what the hospital will do for pre-op, it likely depends on your age. When you're over a certain age, I think they will do an EKG. They may or may not draw blood for a blood test. They will want to know about any allergies to drugs or past reactions and such. It will speed things up for the day of the surgery.

Good luck and I wish you a speedy, smooth recovery!

Counting down the days...

Hi - as my DH said - I seem to be obsessing over this surgery - :hair: can you blame us? but like most of us LIW - I tend to be up and down filled with mixed emotions! I'm the work-a-holic so luckily I am obsessing with that until Friday - my last day at work. I have my pre-op on Thurs and my DH is definitely coming with me - I have read the articles on questions to ask my Dr and found this site to be such a resource... I just had my last "Flo" which ended on Friday! and I'm nervous about recovery since I'm a pretty active person - I have 2 dogs and I'm already sad since I won't be able to do the long walks for a bit after the surgery.

But then in perspective - I've had a few years full of utter agony - just recently all the months that I had my excessive bleeding and heavy periods (due to fibroids) and my lovely bout that I'm still battling with anemia --- so the fatigue I won't miss due to my bleeding --- I've read alot on this site and everyone who has had our surgery type seems to feel better and I look forward to that day (next week !!!)

We're normal to feel the way we do - I'm happy I made the decision along with my Dr to do this - it is for the best for me and it will certainly be a happier household too! I look forward to taking off work - and relaxing and having a DH to pamper me and best of all no more periods!!! !

and best of luck to us all!

CJ

I too go to the doctor tomorrow for pre-op, I already had all my tests done so it will be to go over results and to go over exactly what they will do for the surgery. They did an EKG, chest x-ray, blood work, urine test, MRI and CT scan. All pretty painless if you aren't afraid of needles like I am, big baby I am. haha. Good luck.

Take care,
Jeanette
