Got bikini cut, still tender after 3wks. Is this normal for this week?

I had a mild scare in my 3rd week because the right side of my incision was so very tender. Of course I thought of all the worse case scenarios - infection, hematoma, etc. Went to the specialist the next day and was assured all was well and that this is all a normal part of the healing - told me to take some advil and take it easy. We tend to forget what our body just went through and want to heal fast - ain't gonna happen!!
I learned to be a more patient patient!
Hope you're feeling better soon - I found by the end of week 4 there was a little light at the end of a long tunnel!!

I had a tah/bso with a bikini cut incision too. It was still pretty red & sore at 3 weeks post-op. It got better day by day but took a several months to really feel feel and look healed. My dr explained that it's a deep incision and lots of internal work is included also. He said that although initial recovery is usually 6 - 8 weeks, complete recovery can take a year or so. I'm 5 years post-op now and my scar is barely visible.

Hang in there

I am 3 weeks post TAH with a bikini incision and it looks pretty good but still VERY sensitive...stilll not comfortable laying on my right side in bed but okay on the left...go figure.... not all the steri strips are off...I am afraid to touch them. Terrible insomnia worse than the incision.

just hitting 4 wks

and my incision is still tender to the touch. I can sleep on my side if I hold my belly or place a pillow against it. My fup is this friday.

I try not to touch the incision, and I find if I do things during the day, the even it' s very tender and it gets swollen. The holidays make it hard to just take it easy and I have to keep reminding myself to NOT get back into the normal too quickly....patience is my new years resolution, to learn more patience for my self and for others, not an easy task!!!

Its hard to be patient because I sometimes feel like I am whimpy....and I don't want my family to think I am milking this laying on the couch thing. This morning I thought....thats it...I am not laying around today...but I didn't sleep at all last night...so although my brain says take down the christmas decorations...my body is saying go back to bed and try and get some sleep.

I'm 3 weeks out and think I've healed quite well, but my smiley face incision is still a bit sore when I touch it with anything - so wearing sweats which sit below my belly...very attractive..lol.

I'm still getting some bruising coming out, which surprised me - yellow bruises on the stomach above the incision, so I'm assuming that I'm still recovering from the trauma of the operation.

Think we still have a way to go yet, and everyone heals at a different rate.

hope this helps

Got bikini cut, still tender after 3wks. Is this normal for this week?

Hello. I am in my fourth week post-op and I was feeling worried because my incision feels like it is on fire at night. I feel like I have an open blister inside of me. I also have pain around my incision and about 2 inches above too. I can't stand the feel of anything touching my belly right now. I feel like I should be doing much better than this and my husband is such a good support for me. He keeps reminding me that it was a major surgery (complete hysterectomy w/ bikini cut) and it is going to take awhile to heal. I am seeing my doc today for my 2nd post-op exam. I hope all goes well. Good luck to all and I will keep you in my prayers. Everytime I come to the forum I feel so much better because I am not alone on this journey.

My surgery was a few days before you - it was like week 3, I felt pretty good. Now going on week 5 I am experiencing some of the same stuff you are and find it scary and I just don't get it! The scar itself doesn't hurt but the skin is tender above it and internally I feel like I've been socked in the stomach and I'm swollen. I know I did too much on the 31st, cleaned the house, went out etc, and yesterday I had to take a pain pill and have spent most of the time on the couch or in bed. My 6 wk appt is on the 10th and I can't imagine feeling "good" enough to be released to normal activities by then. I didn't think this was going to happen! I thought a month after surgery I would be fine. With my c-sections (albeit 16 years ago), I was fine after a couple weeks. This is definitely different and takes much more out of you and I am older! Yikes! Just want to feel like "me" again!

Got bikini cut, still tender after 3wks. Is this normal for this week?

I'm in week 3, and my incision is alternately painful and itchy, but because of some residual numbness, the itchiness relocates to my waistband and belly button. I took the SteriStrips off on New Year's Day, per dr. instructions, and it was fairly traumatic (between sensation and SMELL) that I was out of it for two days. This is the first day since that I haven't been woozy or tired! But my shower yesterday didn't hurt at all. My husband checks out my incision (I can't, because I'm not objective about it), and since he saw it when the staples were being removed, he reassures me that it's healing nicely. He's a fairly level-headed person, and has taken good care of me, so I trust him. Plus I'm not going off pain meds for ANYBODY right now -- I'm going to keep on the ibuprofen, to minimize my discomfort.
