2 weeks post hysterectomy - signs of infection?

Hello ladies, I have a couple of questions for those of you further out in your healing than I am:

1) I had a vaginal hysterectomy 2 weeks ago and still have my ovaries. I know the ovaries produce my hormones and so I'm wondering if I will still experience symptoms of menopause. I've started feeling more emotional the last couple of days...I cry really easily...I've always had night sweats, so I have no idea if that's happening or not.

2) I didn't have much bleeding after the first couple of days. Now I find that I have been spotting pretty consistently for several days. The Doc said not to worry unless I was bleeding profusely and filling up pads, however, it generally comes out brownish and smells worse than I think it should...from period experiences in the past, I would say the smell from a little bit of spotting on the pad after an hour resembles that of a saturated pad that has been on all day. I'm worried about infection. I swabbed inside with a q tip (not deeply) and the blood was pink inside, not brown, but it was hard to even fit the q tip in because of the swelling.

Main questions: Is this normal or do I need to see my doctor sooner than my follow up appointment on the 22?

Re: 2 weeks out - signs of infection?

You should not experience menopause because you keep your ovaries. Since you keep your ovaries, you can still exprience pms symptoms but you now will have no bleeding.

The nurse said to me before I left the hospital that if I experienced spotting it was a sign that I was doing too much and I had to slow down and rest. I am the type of person that does not know how to relax so it has been hard to just lay around especially this time of year. Please though rest as much as you can. You want to heal properly and not end up back in the hospital.

If you are concerned about the smell, call your doctor and discuss. I had my doctor's office on speed dial at the two week mark. I had all kind of crazy stuff going on.

Take care and wishing you better days ahead.
