Do fibroids produce estrogen?

I have been tested via saliva as being estrogen dominant. And, recently large fibroids were discovered and I am scheduled for a TAH on Aug 21st. Has anyone had their estrogen levels reduced with a hyst? They are going to try and keep my ovaries. Thanks!

Re: Do fibroids produce estrogen?

I'm not an expert by any means but it's my understanding that fibroids feed on estrogen, they don't produce it. So if you have a lot of estrogen basically it's good eatin' and they'll grow quickly.

Re: Do fibroids produce estrogen?

That is an interesting question. I had large fibroids removed three weeks ago. I also kept my overies. So far I have had very few hormone issues. I have gotten teary watching hallmark movies but otherwise feel pretty stable. I never was tested but since I had fast growing large fibroids I knew I was estrogen dominant. I do know the blood supply to the overies is cut in half. I wonder if that will lower the estrogen?
I feel tremendous
relief having the weight of the fibroids gone. I do think our bodies have a little more of an adjustment with large fibroids no longer compressing things. Be patient and give it time, my bladder and colon is doing really well now, but they were sore at first.
Stock up on prunes, milk of magnesia ect. It may take a while for everything to get moving. I will say a flatter tummy is such a nice benefit!! Hope it all goes really well. Feel free to write me if you have questions.

Re: Do fibroids produce estrogen?

Fibroids do not produce estrogen, however, they produce enzymes which can allow for the conversion of androgens into estrogens within the fibroid cells.

Here is a new article we have that might interest you, too, which clarifies that estrogen dominance does not mean high estrogen but rather that the ratio of estrogen to progesterone is off: Estrogen Dominance.

Re: Do fibroids produce estrogen?

Hi! I also have a large fibroid. I have read that they feed off estrogen so I have wondered before if I have more estrogen but haven't had my hormones tested recently. I am having surgery on the 11th.
