Re: Myomectomy Question

I had a myomectomy in June of '97 at age 42 and my son was born May 98. Fertility increased quickly! I have a possible small fibroid now. I was up and around in no time, but was in great physical condition before the surgery. I ran a lot and got in great shape before hand to speed recovery. I was back at work in about 10 days though I refused to take part in a fire drill requiring 5 flights of stairs. After 3 weeks I was completly cleared for all activities. I'd had 2 prior c-sections so I sort of knew what to expect but it was so much easier.

Re: Myomectomy Question

I had a myomectomy done 8 years ago due to large fibroids. On March 18, 2010 I had a hysterectomy for fibroids that grew back. I am now 45 years old. The myomectomy was good for me at the time, but now am glad I had the hysterectomy.

Re: Myomectomy Question

How did your recovery time compare for the 2 surgeries? Has the hysterectomy been harder?

Re: Myomectomy Question

The hysterectomy has been great- but I had the DaVinci Robotic surgery.
The myomectomy was a 6 inch bikini incision and 2 nights in the hospital, cathadar, it was just harder and more painful.
Just two completely different surgeries. I was very anemic with the myomectomy, which I was fighting fatique and recovery. That took the full 6 weeks. The DaVinci I am at 3 weeks and feel good now, and am going back to work for one of my part time jobs on Sunday.
I hope you just follow your heart- no one could have convinced me 8 years ago to have a hysterectomy (and I was already done with having babies- just a personal decision.) Now-I was ready to have the hysterectomy.

Re: Myomectomy Question

Thanks, I have 6 days to go. I had an easy recovery from the myomectomy, which my doctor said was more invaisive than a hysterectomy, so I am trying to set my expectations.

My wonderful former doctor had to retire due to Lupus and she passed away a few months ago age 54. Very sad. She was a skilled surgeon; she also removed the basketball sized and grapefruit sized ovarian cysts from my then 17 year old, saving both ovaries. I hope the doc who took over her practice is as skilled. As I remember it I was allowed back to normal activities in only 3 weeks. She had never seen anyone recover so fast. I think it is a lucky gene inherited from my mother who has also shown some surprisingly quick recoveries. I am feeling really good right now and haven't had any bleeding since the 5 week spell that ended about a month ago. Being anemic beforehand would really be bad.
