TAH: Regular Anesthesia or an Epidural

I am having my hysterectomy on Wednesday - and I need to decide if I want an epidural. My understanding is that if I get an epidural - I won't get the morphine/pain medication. I've never had an epidural - so I don't know if I should have that - or do the regular anesthesia and do the morphine pump. Also, I don't know if having an epidural hurts or not. I'm a big baby with pain. : )

I want to know too! I am having a TAH also, and see my ob/gyn (who will also be my surgeon) for my regular Drs appt on Monday. I am thinking of requesting one.

I am also going to ask him alot about anti nausea meds in recovery, as well as meds for bladder spasms, gas, stool softeners, and pain meds for when I am home.....for starters.....
I am scared to death!!

Are you talking about an epidural instead of general or in addition too?

I had an epidural and general anesthesia. It was nice waking up without pain. I also had the morphine pump the following evening. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn't do it any differently.
