Home today and incision ??

I am home from the hospital! I had a Tah they removed the staples today right before I came home and put on steri-strips. My concern is that on one part of my incision is now open. Is this common? Should I call the Dr?
Thanks for your support

Home today and incision ??

If you're not sure, it'd be best to call the doctor and describe it. If it is open, there's a big risk of infection--nothing to mess around with. If the incision opened, it's not something you can just put a band-aid on.

My incision opened up the day after the dr took out the staples. Happened on the 11th day after surgery. I called her office the next morning and they asked how soon I could get there.

My opening involved just the top layer of stitches, closest to the skin, fortunately, but it was almost the bottom half of the incision so there was no doubt. Plus, there was a lot of blood at first and oozing overnight, til I could get to the doctor.

I had to have home health nurses visit and show a family member how to wetpack it and the dr put me on heavy duty antibiotics. It all worked out in the end but it was scary there for awhile.

Good luck.

Home today and incision ??

Hi there,
I have had some small separations in my incisions before, but never totally opened up. You definitely need to call the doctor. It may be nothing, or it may be major.
Feel better!

Home today and incision ??

Call the doc's office and see what they say. I've had two of my 6 (very small) incisions open. One had serous (reddish clear) drainage. The first one I just used peroxide and a bandaid, mainly just to keep the drainage off my clothing. Called the docs office and her PA called me back and said to keep on with what I was doing till my appt the next week. The doc checked it at the two week check up and said it looked fine.

The other one opened later and also did some serous drainage.. went to regular gyn for it (my surgeon is a 4 hour drive away) and he said looked fine, no infection and used a little silver nitrate on it. I wore a bandaid on it till the bandage started driving me nuts.. then took it off and I'm bandage free.

If the wound is overly tender or draining a strange color or smells bad or if you are running a fever..... get thee to a doc or the ER as soon as possible.
