aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Stressed & Frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!
[font=Arial Black]It is approximately one week before my surgery and the hospital that I am having the procedure called me yesterday and told me that my insurance is not valid!!! I'm like "What????????" My surgery was preauthorized over a month ago. I had received a letter in the mail confirming the authorization. I call the insurance carrier and the rep calmly explains that my employer terminated their contract on 11/30/05!!!!!!!! We were never told this by our employer. I called my human resources department and she confirmed the termination! I felt like jumping over her desk and strangling her. *punch* She stated that a 3rd party administrator was going to be taking over the coverage for 1 month and then our insurance carrier was going to change again. I went to me desk and cried!!! I have already been stressed thinking about the procedure and now I have this to worry about!!! The hospital said they will put me in their system as "self-pay". Like I can really afford to pay for the surgery of pocket!!! Please pray for me hystersisters, because I am about to have a breakdown!I am in too much pain!! My human resources dept stated that there is nothing to worry about and that they would straighten it out but how can I trust their word when they pulled our insurance coverage out from under us???? Plus we were still paying for this insurance out of our checks!!! I feel that this is illegal!! Anyhoo, thanks for listening to my rant!!! I dont know what I would do without this website......

aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Stressed & Frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi (((CHOCOLATETYE10))),
I know how stressful it is one week before surgery, and this insurance situation certainly doesn't help add calmness.
If I understand what you have written, then your employer did not actually leave you without any coverage. Will this 3rd party insurance cover the surgery? I would go in and talk to your human resources dept and ask them how it works, and if it will cover it. But, my personal advice would be to go in with the frame of mind that they are on your side and that you can work together with them to get it taken care of. The calmer you are when you talk to them, the more information you will get from them and actually the better you will understand it all. Instead of going in and saying "What have you done to me?", go in and say "I need your help, can you help get me through this?" Maybe the hospital just needs the information for the interim provider?
I hope it all works for you and you don't have to postpone.
S,
Kay

Oh, I feel terrible for you. I hope it works out, I'm sure it will. I know what it's like to want to have it all "looked after". My dr is taking "his sweet time" filling out my papers so I will get paid. Now, I don't think I'll get them till after, and at this time of year. I won't be able to drive to get the stupid papers handed in! Good luck to you.

Thanks for listening and the responses! I have calmed down a bit. I have discovered that the surgery will be still covered, it is just a matter of the hospital getting the verbal authorization from the insurance carrier. I am just emotional right now because I can finally see the finish line (my surgery) but I keep getting obstacles. When I am feeling unsure about the surgery, my uterus decides to act up and remind me why I am having the surgery in the first place. I feel that this is the right decision for me, but it has taken a long time to get to the place where I am comfortable with my decision, and then I hear this about my insurance. But I will leave it God's hands!

Chocolatye-
I so understand! Just when you need all of the support you can possibly get from the insurance "establishment", they are throwing obstacles in your way. And of course, corporate America isn't always helpful either. I know all too well. In the middle of my adventure, my company has decided to change insurance carriers also. Everyone is asking me why I am rushing my surgery right before Christmas - it's so I can use the old insurance! And then the company announced that they are going to try to sell themselves, so I need to take care of this while I still have a job and insurance coverage. The stress has gotten so bad, that my doc put me stress medical leave 3 weeks before my surgery date! So I understand your stress all too well. Not only are we in pain physically, but out employers and the insurance choices they make aren't helping make us any healthier!!!! Take care of yourself, hug yourself, and know that it will all work out well. Keep your chin up!
