incision questions

I am so glad to have found this site. I had a complete hysterectomy with vertical abdominal incision on 2/14.

I am 53, and shall we say, queen-sized/zaftig/fat. The surgeon was great and did a very neat job on the incision. I have been super-careful not to stress it, and the surgeon was happy with the healing as of 2/23.

Have any others of you who are larger had to deal with nasty red, slimy areas where body "rolls" meet? My surgeon's resident suggested an anti-fungal and it has made the situation better, but I welcome other advice.

Have any of you been driven crazy by the top of your incision as it starts to heal? Mine is right at the waist, and the pulling, itching, flaking and general discomfort at the top is quite frustrating. I found that acquiring a few sets of men's boxers was vastly preferable to my panties for comfort.

Please share any incision healing wisdom you may have to offer.

Regards,
Holly

incision questions

try gauze or cotton wash cloths in skin folds change often, yeast and bacteria love moist places with no air flow. i use a cotton gauze pad on the incision to keep dry.

good luck

I also have my own roll and had the slimy thing going on for a few days. Got way better when I was able to wash properly and I have kept gauze in the roll and change it often. Cotton gauze mind you, not the cheap things you can get at the grocery store.
