2 weeks post hysterectomy spotting and restitched

so I am a little over 2 weeks out now. On Monday I started back at my work which is a part time desk job. On Tuesday I had my follow up and also had the first bright red spotting since my surgery. All other spotting was tan colored. Didn't panic since I was heading off to the doc anyway.

He took a peak (speculum was uncomfortable but did not hurt) and saw the corner of my cuff was uneven. So I had silver nitrate applied. No pain but a tiny bit of a burn- like lemon on a paper cut. I was fine by that evening with only a bit of grey discharge. Next day I was clear.

Today I woke up to a bright red spot again. It wasn't continuous but I am not one to "wait and hope it passes" Off to the doc. This time he put in 2 stitches to get that corner of the cuff to heal quicker. The most uncomfortable part again was the speculum but I always have trouble with those. He numbed me, placed the stitches and as I type this about 5 hours later, I am fine. No pain. Weird orange discharge from the other chemical he used to cauterize.

Hopefully that little corner will behave now and heal so I can finally stop wearing a panty liner!

Re: 2 weeks post-hysterectomy spotting and restitched

At two weeks, spotting is not uncommon, and you may notice more as your stitches start to dissolve. Glad your doc headed off some potential problems.

I returned to my part time desk job after two weeks, and felt I should've stayed out another week (the old thing about hindsight being 20/20). I found that I still had to rest quite a bit at home. Be sure as you return to daily living that you still listen to your body for hints that you need to slow down. That's the hardest part!

Thank you for posting this. I had a full hysterectomy on the same day as you. I went for my post-op this past Tuesday and she was a bit concerned that I am spotting bright red blood. I got a lecture about too much bending and too many times on the stairs and was told if it's the same in 2 weeks they will do the cauterizing. I am very glad to hear it wasn't bad in terms of pain because my doctor does not give pain meds (only the first 3 hours of post op care). She did say I have a lot of stitches (also had suspension and rectocele repair) - that everything is nice and high where it belongs but that the stitches are bleeding.

So glad I could be a reassurance. I hope your healing progresses but if you need some cauterizing, you should do fine. Being nervous can heighten sensory feeling so best thing is to remain relaxed during any proceedure. It's tough because it is natural to want to brace yourself ! . Good Luck!
