What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

What should I plan on wearing home from the hospital?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated 💚

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

I wore home what I wore there. Loose fitting yoga type pants and a loose soft long sleeve tshirt.
I also wore my sneakers and socks, and bought some extra big underwear to go over my incision.

As far was what I brought to the hospital, I suggest you don't bring a lot as you really are not up to doing much. You will want a cell phone, gum, pads (as hospital only had belted type pads), and your face creams, tooth brush, brush. I did not put on make up. You might want that for when you leave to go home. Some people bring a book, but I was not up to it.

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

I had a TAH BSO, so my hospital stay was more extended than yours will most likely be. My stay was 3 1/2 days, and yours will probably be overnight or less.

You do not need much at the hospital, as they provide most of what you need. Here is what I brought:

-I wore the same clothes to the hospital that I went home in, namely sweat pants with elastic waist band and a larger-type t-shirt.
-Underwear (just for the day I went home)
-Cell phone and charger
-Reading material (although I could not read because I could not concentrate)
-some women bring a robe, for walking around the hospital (they get you up pretty quickly), but I did not feel I needed one. I figured no one cares if they see me in my hospital gown.
-All toiletries were provided at my hospital

Here is also a list of additional items:

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

I packed a little travel on and then put 4 extra changes of clothes, each in it's own bag and left those in the car. I ended up needing 2 extra changes of clothes because I stayed an extra night due to nausea. If you have a weak bladder, I suggest extra underwear and an extra change of clothes. I got a 24 hour bout of nausea and every-time I wrenched I also leaked and even thought I had a pad I was very glad I had so many extra underwear. If you're young enough where you don't leak if you vomit this might not matter as much and hopefully you won't vomit at all!!

Blessings and respect from Michigan

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

My surgery was a Monday morning and I didn't go home till Thursday.

I needed so little. A toothbrush and toothpaste. Clean (size bigger) underwear - I wore home the same cloths I came in. I did need my cell phone and charger and a tablet to watch movies.

One tip is to bring an extension cord. It was great. I could charge my phone while in my bed. I was worried the nurses would be upset but they thought it was a smart idea.

Good luck! It will be over before you know it.

Ps I never bled at all

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

I have a small rolling bag that I had, small tummy pillow, comfy pjs for after catheter removal, hose shoes with grips on sole, my laptop and charger. I had a smaller bag that also fit with, gum, chap stick, cleaning cloth for glasses, case for glasses, brush, toothbrush and toothpaste. That's it. It all fit in the one bag and rolled. No jewelry. No purse. Take only your I'd and insurance card.

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

This is what I used from the bag i packed (I stayed one night):

My own night gown
lip balm
eye mask (helpful if light bothers you when trying to sleep)
peppermint tea bags (for nausea)
toothbrush & toothpaste
hair brush and pony tail holder

I wore home: large brief style panties, yoga pants, sweatshirt & sneakers.

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

I wore the yoga pants and tee shirt home that i wore too the hospital. Flip flops on my feet. I used the panties that the hospital provided. I also took my toothpaste, tooth brush and face wash and moisturizer. Also wore a comfy sports bra. And I had my cellphone with me. That's about it!

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

I had LAVH and was at the hospital for about 6.5 hours total. The only things I needed were my DL, insurance card, credit card, cell phone, asthma meds, lip balm, and clothes to go home in. I also had a baseball cap to put on after--very bad hair!! I used the hospital's pad and mesh underwear.

Re: What should I bring to the hospital for my hysterectomy?

I was only in for 24 hours. You want to ear home something that is comfortable. I wore my pajamas. I didn't need the pads as I wasn't bleeding. The only gadget I took was my phone and my charger. the best thing you can do in there is sleep. I took shampoo, toothpaste and the like but I didn't shower there as I left at 9:30 AM. I showered at my MIL's house. She was my babysitter. Remember what ever you take with you, you have carry out.
