7 weeks post hysterectomy: Vaginal Cuff Infection/Bacterial Vaginosis

I am about 7 wks post op (partial hysterectomy-Uterus) & my boyfriend & I decided to have intercourse 2 days before my 6 wk c/u. I experienced pain & lots of bleeding so we stopped. I made a apt the following morning with my gyn because of the continued cramps. She told me that I hadn't healed completely & to take a few days to rest. 2 days after that apt, I noticed a foul smell w/discharge & I automatically knew I had BV. I had a 3 day supply of flagyl from a prev refill so I took that bc it was the wknd. I also purchased & took a probiotic (realized at that moment I needed it bc I was getting BV every time my boyfriend & I had intercourse w/o condom.) The smell & cramping went away immediately. I thought I was better until I returned to work. I was so uncomfortable & could barely walk. I made a second apt w/gyn & was told I had a infected vaginal cuff. I was prescribed a full 7 day dose of flagyl & doxycycline. The pain is awful. It feels like my vagina is sure to fall to the ground. I have a burning/crampy sensation to the lower part of my abdomen. I also have a light discharge ranging from light pink to brown. I have not had a bowel movement for about 4-5 days. Every time I urinate the pain is similar to how I felt after my surgery. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? When will the pain go away?

Re: 7 weeks post hysterectomy: Vaginal Cuff Infection/Bacterial Vaginosis

I am 12 months post op and went to the doctor yesterday. Yes, I am right there with you. Same diagnosis. Symptoms - clear and sometimes brown discharge, pain in vagina, but no odor. Given a prescription for antibiotics and prescription yeast infection. Generally a yeast infection will follow the antibiotics. 7 day prescription. Doctor said it'scommon to have a vvaginal infection after atTVH. Miserable and in pain. But.. all sutures are dissolved and the cuff is closed and healed. Let's stay in touch.
