My pre-op is this morning

and you know, I'm really REALLY nervous about it! I don't know why, but I am. Isn't that silly! I had horrible dreams all night long. I've been thinking more about this appointment that the actual surgery.

3 days and counting!

Keep your head up!

Hi, MrsUSMC

Your feelings are normal and things will get better. For me everything was good, up until the recovery. The waiting, the sitting and all the other restictions that goes along with it. The surgery goes well for most and the drugs they have you on you don't feel much. My prays are with you that you have a peace of mind through it all.

My pre-op is this morning

Is the pre-op appointment generally just a consultation? Reason I ask is that when I have mine, I will be in full bloom with my last period. Sure hope I don't have to reschedule. The nurse never mentioned it when she set up the appointment. I'm sure it isn't going to bother the doc anyway. I just want this to be over.

Pre-op is filling out forms about insurance and liability, having blood taken for testing, and for some people, additional tests like EKG and chest X-rays. I don't think most people have to have an internal at their pre-op. I know I didn't. I know that when I first went to see my doctor because he was my second opinion, I was told I wouldn't be having an internal, just a consultation. I was in full flow with my lovely period and he decided I needed an internal and examined me anyway--YUCK--but it was all okay and better than rescheduling.

You'll be fine either way, I promise!

JudeD is right again! Even if you have your period (Your last one, mind you! Woo Hoo!) they can still do the exam. My dr. even said not to reschedule because your body actually "opens up" a little more and they can see even better. Yuck! But, hey, I'm not the one down there! Ha! But, usually a pre-op doesn't include a pelvic exam. Mostly just bloodwork, etc.

My pre-op is this morning

The sisters are right. I watched a video/comptuer promted graphics explaining my procedure (about 45 minutes), then I met with my doctor to ask any questions (take notes if you can) I did and it helped. Then I went to the hospital (was downstairs) and filled out insurance information, medical questionaire, paid my 20%, gave blood and urine, then they informed me of what to expect, showed me where I would recover, where my room would be, etc. It was very helpful. All in all it took about 2 hours. I hope this helps. Good Luck and well wishes to the sisters!.
Smiles,
Connie

My pre-op is this morning

My pre-op was questions for anesthesia and a blood draw at the hospital. Nothing at the doc's. And don't worry about the period thing. Many of us had our periods so long if we waited for it to stop we would not get to the doctors or the surgery. I was on it for my ultrasounds and surgery.

And if blood bothered them they wouldn't be surgeons!

My pre-op is this morning

Hi, I went for my pre-op a couple of days ago.It was a nurse just explaining to me everything that would happen on the day of surgery...what preperations I needed to take care of before.. what to bring to the hospital,,what diet and medication they would have me on and a history of problems..medications.. and answered any questions I had.She knows ..as my doctor I have ongoing bleeding and its ok...it wont postpone your surgery. All the best to you (((((((hugs)))))))))

Wow, TexanD Your pre-op was way more thorough than mine. I didn't see the patient rooms or recovery room or a video. That would have been nice.
