What's wrong with me?

So, this is my first day on this site. I'm in a bit of a bind. My body has been rebelling against me for quite some time, now, and this past weekend, I had the worst period ever. That's saying something since over three years ago, my doc said that b/c of my heavy bleeding and discomfort (endo, 4 C-sections, lots of scar tissue ...) I was a candidate for hyster. Husband lost his job just a few weeks prior to scheduling. So ... my body has had three years to continue the rebellion. Anyway, last weekend was a super plus tampon every half hour or less (record - 10 minutes) for 24 hours (with the exception of getting up only 3x during the night). Felt horribly anemic on Monday and Tuesday, had blood drawn on Tuesday morning and discovered Hg was 12.7. I was expecting much lower. It's Saturday. I slept 8 hours last night and went back to bed from 9-12. Feeling very weak, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate. I have a doctor's appt. on Monday, but really need some feedback from ladies who know about "the rebellion" because I'd rather not drop dead before the appt. Kind of a joke ... or is it? :-( Blah. Is there a chance I could be bleeding internally? Maybe just dehydrated? Should I just hang in there until Monday? What a pain. Thanks, Ladies.

Re: What's wrong with me?

You need to see a doctor. There are times when self diagnosis, Dr Google, opinions etc should not be used. They are helpful but do not put your life at risk. Keep us posted.

Re: What's wrong with me?

I have similar periods , heavy with flooding which caused me to become severely anaemic ( Hb 7.1 ) my surgery is scheduled for this Monday and like you I've have the worst period ever this week which has convinced me I've made the right choice in having a SAH. ( no choice really as I have several huge fibroids which are responsible for the bleeding) My only regret is that I didn't seek medical advice earlier for the menorrhagia. I can't say for certain , but I doubt very much yore are losing blood internally , that said , it's worth having another blood test for Hb count ASAP . I'm sure you will make the dr's appt Monday . I wish you all the best. Xxx

Melly -

Please see a doctor regarding your symptoms. You want to make sure that there is nothing else going on....

Re: What's wrong with me?

Good luck with that. I had horrible periods and excessive bleeding since I was a teen and was diagnosed anemic, took iron supplements into I was about 20. Thought periods were getting better with bc pills. 9 years ago had second c-section, must have bled a lot in OR, dr check my blood and my hemoglobin was still 12 something and she told me that in her experience with my blood loss she expected it to be around 5 or so. i was really good this time around and followed dr's orders to a T, yet my recovery was not was i call good. i was nursing and got a horrible flooding 2 weeks after the c-section, it ended after a day so dr didn't think much of it. didn't think much of my periods coming back 4 weeks post c-section heavy and lasting 14 days with 21 day cycles. My periods were worse than ever, I was nursing for a year and a half and dealing with this. Yet, my hemoglobin stayed at its normal 12 ish. Always has stayed around that. I kind of wonder for us bloodletters that our bodies get adjusted to it and either find ways to get more iron from our bodies, or make it somehow. Thus, why we don't have low hemoglobin levels. Yet, my bone density that I had done at 38 showed that I had osteopenia, a precursor to osteoperosis. Plus, I seriously crave red meat and I don't feel satisfied until I have a portion of it each day, something I didn't have until about 6 years ago.

Re: What's wrong with me?

I would consider going to the ER before Monday. Bleeding this heavily could cause some serious problems. I have never had a problem until recently when I had internal bleeding after an accident. If I hadn't gone to the ER I would quite possibly have bled out before the morning . Sending hugs and hoping you feel better soon.

Re: What's wrong with me?

I think you should see someone today at the ER if your doctor is not in on Saturday. You could be bleeding internally and your rapid heart rate is not good either.
Please keep us updated

Re: What's wrong with me?

Thanks for all the advice! I had an appt. on Monday with my doctor. I was feeling better after feeling so lousy over the weekend. He thinks it was a combo of being dehydrated and slightly anemic b/c of the heavy bleeding. Anyway, the inevitable has arrived. I'm sceduled for Jan. 9 surgery. Ready and not ready ...
