I'm sorry that you need this surgery being so young. I had TVH and kept my ovaries and do not need to take hormones. I will be praying for you that all goes well. Even though I had mine for different reasons, I am so glad I did and I'm on my way to feeling better.

You need only ask - we're here to help.
I'm sorry you're having to go through this - a lot to consider for sure! You may not need hormones if you are able to keep your ovaries - sometimes they will shut down temporarily after the shock of surgery and sometimes they shut down because the blood supply is compromised. These are valid concerns that you need to discuss with your doctor along with us Hystersisters. Ask your Dr. about the pros and cons of your procedure, your other options (if any), and your concerns about hormones.
I hope you find answers and support in your journey to better health.

I had a TAH on January 11th and kept my ovaries. No HRT for me. As I understand it, if you keep ovaries, you don't need hormone replacement - but check with your .

The purpose of keeping your ovaries is so that you have all the hormones you need made by your own body. My guess is that the reason your doctor is having you retain your ovaries with an endometriosis diagnosis is because you are so young. That was one of the deciding factors for me as well.

Are you having surgery with an endometriosis specialist? Since there is no cure for endometriosis you want to have the best doctor you can! And while keeping your ovaries is good for your overall health, your ovaries will provide any left behind endometriosis with plenty of estrogen.

If you have not had time to do so, you might want to take some time to read through our Endometriosis Resources. And if you have not already done so, seek a second opinion about what is best for you!

Sending lots of best wishes and s your way!
