Nervous about surgery

I'm new here and I am so glad that I found this wonderful site. I am scheduled to have a TAH on April 9th and I'm a little scared. I have adenomyosis and an enlarged uterus (10-12 weeks) as well as a 4.5cm cyst on my left ovary. I have been having problem periods since having a tubal ligation in Dec. 98 with increasingly bad cramping. What makes me afraid is that I had my gallbladder removed in September of last year and had so many complications that I almost died from it. It wasn't so much the complications as the complacency of the surgeon that was the problem. After this surgery is when things became so bad that I couldn't stand the pain anymore. I began having periods every 2-3 weeks and each one was longer than the last up to 14 days with severe cramping and bleeding. Finally the ultersound was bad enough thst my regular doctor decided to do something about it and refered me to a GYN. After talking to her it was decided that the best thing for me was to have the hysterectomy. At first I was relieved that I was going to get some relief but now the nerves have set in. I have so much to do in the next week and a half I think I am going to lose my mind. My boys are on Spring break starting the day of my surgery and the 2 older ones are supposed to fly to Louisiana to spend the week with my ex leaving the 5 yo with me. My mom is going to fly here for a couple of days so that will be nice. But I am still nervous. Is there anyone who is going to have their surgery around the same time? Any encouragement would be wonderful.

Welcome. I am already seven weeks post-op but I remember well enough what those pre-op jitters felt like. It sound like you have a lot on your plate. My advise to you is to take your time in preparing for this surgery. If minor things don't get done--just let them go. Ask for help if you can and ask others to pray for you if you feel so led. Stay contected with us at hystersisters and we will guide you through.

Hi (((Janean))) and a warm welcome to Hystersisters. You will find many wonderful women here kindly sharing their experiences with you or listening to fears or allowing others to vent, etc. Your post was not too long, write what you need to and no need to apologize.
As you'll read, most everyone was scared of the surgery, it is a major operation afterall. In your case you recall your bad experience with past surgery and it is very understandable that this is even more frightening for you. Have you talked with your gyn and told him re the complications you had following the gallbladder sugery? If you remain very uneasy please don't hesitate to ask for something to relieve anxiety - lots of women do.
