1 week post-op and recovery....

It was one week ago yesterday and I'm here to tell you LIW that yes, I am glad I had this done!

I had my SAH done (leaving the remaining left ovary) due to severe endo and pain. They found endo completely covering the back of the uterus and fibroids (small) inside.

I did have some post-op complications and had to return to the hospital for 3 more days, but am I happy now that I had this done...YES!

I still am resting, but I can feel my body recovering and doing better than before. I can already FEEL the benifits of the surgery!

I've still got some brain fog (computer screen looks a little fuzzy) and I'm sleeping a lot. My incision looks fablous (it's healing really nicely) and swelly belly isn't nearly what I thought it would be...it's just some slight swelling above the incision. Because I haven't ate solids yet and don't have an appetite I've actually lost weight and my jeans are too loose on me now! (believe me, I needed to lose some weight!).

I'm looking forward to the rest of my recovery...and if I had to do it all again I would.

I strongly suggest that you have that pillow with you! I still hug mine 24 hours a day.

So...the waiting is hard, but recovery moves along quickly.

Hang in there...it's worth the wait!

Rita

Dear Rita,

I'm glad you are doing so well Keep up the resting and relaxing and you'll feel even better!

Just wanted to say "Welcome Princess". I also hugged the pillow for about the first 3 weeks - I wouldn't go anywhere without it!

Sending you a big

1 week post-op and recovery....

Congrats! I'm new out here....but, am glad to here about your recovery! I am not a stranger to surgery, by any means, but, am concerned about this one!

I have had a laparatomy (full 8" incision) and one c-section - and am assuming my recovery will be similar.....but, just assuming. I don't know, obviously! But to hear yours is going smoothly is a relief!

Take care - rest up - and, ladies, tell me about this pillow.....

Pillow ?

Ok.... everyone talks about the pillow being a *must have* item.
Do I need to bring one with me or will they have one there for me? What size pillow? It seems like a very important item to have very nearby for a very long time.

Do Tell! Thanks.

You're back...!

Hey Fussy! Good to hear you are back and recovering well!
You look alovely princess in your crown. I am a 30 Apr Princes and am also having a very good recovery. I am the same - not very much swelly belly going on at all and have been wearing my regular jeans. Yes aren't those pillows a good idea - Scotsdale I got a little travel pillow from Walmart $2.83 and a pillow case to match for the same price I think. A very good purchase. My belly is not sore anymore but I still use it to prop up my book when I am reading lying down and to hug against my belly at night when I sleep. Take it easy fus and be a good princess and get your rest etc. I too am glad I had this done and feel so much better already! take care!

Pillows

You don't need to get a special pillow. The hosptial should be overflowing with pillows, just ask your nurse if they don't offer you one. They have the funniest picture in The Journey Through the Land of Hyster book of what princesses might look like with all their pillows. One under the legs, under each arm, uner the head of course and one over the belly...and somehow they managed to get even more in there. It was truly impossible for DH tyo sleep in the same bed at first it was so overflowing with pillows. You can even comfortably sleep on your side if you have one over you belly, and one under the front side of your belly to support it, one for between your legs, and extra one under your head and one behind you back if you can get DH to put it there for you. I had the extra pillows off the other bed and all the toss ones that we have on the bed too including the shams. It does make a huge difference in your comfort. Oh by the way, you really should not just sleep on your back but reposition yourself to one side or the other every couple of hours alternating with your back. This helps circulation, goes towards helping prevent those blood clots and pneumonia and helps prevent pressure or bed sores.
