I am 28 yrs old. I have been married almost 4 yrs. I have a 1 yr old daughter. I have a wonderful husband, and a very understanding family. I feel that I am very blessed in most cases.

I just feel so alone right now. My oldest sister had to have this done when she was about my age. I have a sister that is 45 yrs old and fixing to have the same thing done. My mother had cervical cancer in the last stage 25 yrs ago. My sister-in-law is having the same surgery on June 3, 2003. My mother-in-law had the surgery done about 10 yrs ago. My husbands aunt had this surgery done 4 wks ago. Everybody has an opioion, but I still feel like no one knows what I am going through.

My mother-in-law is trying to scare me to death about it. Everyone else is so encourageing about it. I just feel so helpless.

Has anyone out there had a c-section to have a baby? Is this surgery going to be anything like that? I had to have a c-section when I had my daughter last year, that really wasn't all that bad. But noone that I know that has had a hysterectomy has had a c-section, so I can't find out if they are any thing alike. If anyone can help me or give me any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I had a c-section with my son. I can tell you honestly that this is a bit more painful. You will have many more stitches internally that need time to heal. I'm not saying that it's an unbearable pain, but you will be more sore and the recovery takes longer. My TAH was my 3rd surgery through the same incision, so that may also make a difference. I remember when I had my son, I was released after 3 weeks and I'm going in for my 5 week checkup today.

My recover was really uneventful. I hurt for about four days, then it was just sore. I stopped pain meds after 4 days, then I had the dredded gas pains. It helped by walking and drinking water.

With you family all having gone through it, you should have lots and lots of support. Do you know yet if it's a TAH, or a TVH?

You didn't say when your surgery was scheduled. I highly suggest you get the book "The Journey Through the Land of Hyster" if you have time to get it deleivered before surgery. Even if not, get it, it is a great resource to have beside your couch when you don't feel like getting on the puter yet. In the meantime go find the hints and articles section on the homepage in the left hand column. Read everything you can, even some of the post op ones, especially the do's and don'ts and the things DH can do to help out. These all have a lot of the questions you have answered plus ones yo haven't even thought of yet. I think even your question on comparing the c sect with a hyst is there. And remember to ask away whenever you don't understand something or have a concern.

Hugs,

Hi Kookie, I too live in Kentucky. I had 2 c-sections and the hyst is harder than the section because they aren't just opening and taking a baby out. They are opening you and taking some of your insides out. BUT you will really be amazed that it won't be that bad at all. Whereas recovery from the c-section took a few weeks, this will take every bit of the 6 weeks. I took pain pills for the first week and tapered off to just tylenol. You will need help for your baby as you won't be able to lift her or run after her. You will need to be pampered. No one can really understand our own pain. Only you know how much pain you can handle. Someone who can't handle any pain will say this is very painful and someone who is much more tolerant of pain will think it's fairly easy. I had a tummy tuck along with my hyst and that is much more difficult and I could handle both, but it took about 2 weeks to really feel a lot better for me. Once I was up and around though, I became more restless, but I still needed my daily naps.

Good luck.
