3 1/2 weeks post op and started bleeding

I haven't had any bleeding for 11 days. I was laying in the bed while my little one napped this morning and needed to use the restroom. I went to go pee and in my underwear was brownish red stuff. It was thick. I'm worried because I haven't had anything for 11 days. I haven't done much today but the past two days I was up and about a lot. Plus I have to take all 4 of my boys to the dentist today for their 6 month cleaning. Should I be worried or is this normal ? I'm scared.

Discharge is normal for up to 8 weeks unless it's heavy and/or comes with a fever.

Re: 3 1/2 weeks post op and started bleeding

I had lots of bleeding (and wound up back in the hospital) after nothing 15 days in - the rule of thumb is: if you are soaking more than a maxi pad an hour with bright red blood, then call your doctor. If it's just old/gunky and slow - it's your vaginal cuff stitches and perhaps your body telling you to slow down.

Definitely drink plenty of water and take time to rest - even if you don't feel like you need it.

I have 4 kids too- - I know how hard it is to sit still - but you have to.

If your bleeding persists or you are at all concerned, call your doctor - that's what they are there for!

Hugs - -L

Re: 3 1/2 weeks post op and started bleeding

Yoo hoo!
I had bleeding around day 13 for 5 days. It was brown and gungy and pretty slow flow. Enough to use only a couple of thin panty liners per day. I had a horrible feeling that it was a period as it coincided with the day I was supposed to start - dunno where I thought that was coming from! LOL
Anyway, nothing since apart from a watery clear discharge, which surgeon said is a normal part of the stitches and healing process up there.
You may get a slightly odd odour off some of this, but if it starts to smell nasty then visit the doc!

Take care x

Re: 3 1/2 weeks post op and started bleeding

I'm glad you posted this, because it happened to me last night!!
I started to have some vaginal discharge after 2 week post-op, but according to my doc and lot of posts on this site, that's normal. It's just part of healing process. My doc said as long as I don't have pain/fever/odor, I should be fine.
But last night, it was bright red!!?? I e-mailed my doc, and this is what she e-mailed me back

"If it is dark red or brown it is likely a small clot at the surgery site breaking down. The old blood has to go somewhere, so it comes out vaginally. If it is bright red like new blood come see me."

So I made an appt for this afternoon.
I'm worried if I did too much... I don't have kids but I have 6 dogs! That's a lot of squatting (picking up poops/feeding)!! LOL!!
I had a few small containers of dog food on my kitchen counter (so I don't have to lift or bend-over), but I ran out yesterday. So I had to move a big plastic container to get the dog food. I didn't think it was that heavy, but that's the only thing I can think of...

Anyway, I'll keep you posted!!

Re: 3 1/2 weeks post op and started bleeding

Well, I just came back from my doc's office.
Turned out I have vaginal infection and that aggrevated the surgical site and caused bleeding. My doc stopped bleeding with silver nitrate and gave me antibiotics. She told me to limit my activities for the next 2 days. Well, my dogs are not going to be happy about that...

Re: 3 1/2 weeks post op and started bleeding

Serenitypaws- Just read these posts. I am day 17 post op, had the usual brown, then light spotting in the beginning. Went back to my part time job yesterday, napped yesterday and today when I got home. This afternoon I went to the bathroom had was spotting bright red. Put a mini pad on and have not spotted since. It's almost 7pm here, I think I will wait until morning to call the doc. What do you think?

Well, I didn't bleed a lot either.
I noticed I was bleeding when I woke up in middle of the night (2am) and by morning (around 9am) I wasn't bleeding anymore. I thought about cancelling my appt (3:30pm), but the bright red color made me concerned.
And I'm glad I didn't cancel it. My doc spotted where it was bleeding and it was still bleeding inside!? She also noticed that I have a lot of discharge inside and have them tested.
If I didn't go see her today, I wouldn't know I had vaginal infection and it would've been still bleeding inside me!?
It only took a few minutes for my doc to stop the bleeding.
So I suggest call your doc just in case.
Keep me posted!! I hope you're ok!!

OK, I will call the doctors service. It's so nice to come here to be able to ask questions and share concerns.
Thanks
