Allergic to adhesive!

Hi folks..

In 2009, I had to have some moles removed for testing. Of course, I had to keep those spots covered for a number of weeks... which is when I discovered I'm allergic to bandage ADHESIVE. It wasn't the latex in the strip itself! It wasn't until I went for suture removal that the dermatologist told me that you can be allergic to the adhesive!! The skin around the mole area, where ever the bandages were, looked worse and itched far worse than the wound itself!!! I found out that some adhesives contain lanolin.. that's what I'm allergic to.

The funny thing is that a regular bandaid on my finger is fine... (I think because I wash my hands a lot, and the bandaids fall off more often) but put that same bandaid on a more sensitive spot and leave it on... iiiiiitccccch.

It took me a while to find a brand of bandage that I wasn't allergic to. Latex free is far more common than a hypoallergenic adhesive!!! And then the bandage I found I couldn't get in stores.. I had to order it!!

Now I have this LAVH/TLH coming up .. and even though the incisions are expected to be small, I wanted to make sure I had bandages to cover them! So, if I can offer a tip to my sisters ... make sure you have a stock of a bandages you can tolerate. Test a bandage in the crook of your elbow, or on your stomach, and leave it there for a day or two.. if you start itching... look for buying a hypoallergenic bandage!

Am I allowed to say? Let's just say that it's just like going to your local DRUGSTORE ,except on a COMmercial internet site. ;-)

Re: Allergic to adhesive!

make sure you tell your doc & anesthesiologist that too - they can help w/ that. The last thing you want is an allergic reaction after surgery! I'm allergic to surgical glue - so I had to tell t hem not to use it.
