4 weeks post hysterectomy: Passing gas too much?

Hi all,
From what I have read you tend to call farting passing gas, and wow has my body become a champion at that. Almost every 5-10 minutes after a meal, and then just for giggles every 15-20 minutes thru the rest on the day! Anyone else going through this?
Also still have the browny red discharge,( I change the pad because the smell rather than the amount of blood is bothering me) feels likes the worlds longest period, and still has that unpleasant odour. No symptoms of infection tho, so I guess my body is just taking this time to clear the wound tissue? Had a vaginal hysterectomy so no other places to drain I guess? Hope everyone else is resting while they can

Re: 4 weeks post hysterectomy: Passing gas too much?

Nzat,
What you're experiencing sounds very much like what I experienced after my TVH. The reddish brown discharge, the odor down there and the constant tooting that became so common that my family didn't even giggle anymore!

The odor lasted about 3 weeks for me and the gas seemed to get better each week. I think moving around more and keeping the BMs regular helped with the gas. The discharge can last through initial recovery (approx 6 weeks). Remember you have a wound healing at the end of your vagina - which is a warm, dark, moist environment. Our vaginas are self-cleaning and so are constantly trying to clear any blood or stitches. The discharge is probably mostly vaginal fluid just tinged with a bit of old blood.

I hope it helps to know what you're experiencing sounds normal!

Re: 4 weeks post hysterectomy: Passing gas too much?

Oh yes, oh yes. I have more gas than I ever imagined. I have spent so much time in the bathroom in the last 3 weeks.
I have my checkup on Monday and it is on my "list of questions".
Your discharge with odor does not sound right. I would call your doctor. I specifically remember my GYN telling me to call her if that happened.
Happy healing!
