Re: need to decide between two hysterectomy types LAVH or LSH - concerned abt morcellation and recovery length

Hi Dawnstoltzfus,

I had a LSH..and I am still very pleased with my hysterectomy results...this many years later.

In pre-op, I had 2 large fibroids. I also had a sturdy cervix and I had had normal pap smears for years. I read that there is an approx. 3% chance of cervical cancer in women...so I thought that was good odds for me...and it helped me with my choice of a LSH...and keeping my cervix...and ovaries

Most importantly...just do what is best for you. That is what counts.

I would be concerned morcellating the fibroid could leave fibroid dust within the abdominal cavity. Certainly this does not compare to the spread of cancer cells however we all know fibroids are miserable. Why is he not morcellating in a bag? I have read the cavity should be washed after morcellation for at least 15 minutes to remove microscopic debris. Is there a risk microscopic fibroid dust could become problematic fibroids later if hrt is used? I personally would not allow morcellation. I think it is an unsafe practice.
