11 weeks post hysterectomy very frustrated

So I decided to go back to the gym last week. Did very minimal and came home feeling as though my insides were almost tearing apart inside. Excercise is my anti depressant so at the moment Its very disheartening . My head needs it but my body can't do it. Before going to the gym I had o pain and felt fine. I did running rowing push ups squats kettle swings with 8 kg ( regretting that big time)! This is nothing in comparison with what I could do pre op. It is nice not having all that pressure there but this recovery sucks!

Re: 11 weeks post hysterectomy very frustrated

I'm also going through this and very frustrated. It's like going back to the stone ages before I even worked out. What has helped me is I purchased the Peloton bike. It lets me get cardio in with no impact, I can take classes from home and stop if I need to. It has really been amazing. I hope to get back to my regular routine but I'm slowing realizing it will be an uphill frustrating battle. To top it off I have nerve damage and the only thing that doesn't aggravate it is the bike.

Re: 11 weeks post hysterectomy very frustrated

I applaud you for getting back to exercise. I am only 2 weeks out and walking to back of our property(16 acres) just about did me in. I took 3 flights of stairs at my post op appt yesterday because I wanted to prove I could- dumb move! I would like to start slow but don't seem to be wired that way.

Re: 11 weeks post hysterectomy very frustrated

I'm 11 weeks out and started doing an uphill hike every day plus some stairs, some yoga, some lunges. I did that for about a week and now I've been back in bed for about a week. I'm back to barely walking. So, I guess it's not worth it to rush things. The advice my doctor gave me, that I could lift weights after 6 weeks was absolute baloney. I guess we just have to learn to listen to our own bodies. Maybe it's a time to discover some new types of exercise we like. I think low-impact is a good idea, as KatPants says. Has anyone tried swimming? I'm thinking of trying laps. But at this point, back on the pain meds, I'm a little scared to try anything. So frustrating!

Re: 11 weeks post hysterectomy very frustrated

I am sorry that you have had such a set back! I just reviewed all my post op instructions and the advice was not to lift more than 10# for the first 6 weeks. Makes me concerned about lifting my grandkids as they are 25#. I know I can't lift them for 4 more weeks but I sure don't want to have to start healing all over again. Good luck to you and please let everyone know how you are doing and what is working to correct your issues.

Don't be too hard with yourself

I went back SLOWLY to swimming and cross country skiing at two months. Then I went to my running club. Last saturday I was 4 months postop and jogged 10 km. I had to nap that afternoon...

I understand you really well, exercising is a good antidepressant. But we were not allowed to exercise for about 2 months. Its normal not to be as fit as before. Dont get discouraged, we are probably in better shape than many sedentary persons lol. And believe me, we get better every week.

Re: 11 weeks post hysterectomy very frustrated

I was the same way. I have been a group fitness instructor for 9 years and was itching to get back. I didn't go back to teaching classes until 9 weeks out and probably could've had a few more weeks. I started yoga at 12 weeks. I just started slowly running (5 mins jog, 5 mins walk) and I am at 4 mos out. Take your time. I know the struggle. I had no idea how hard the recovery would actually be. I struggled a lot! Hang in there.
