What I learned from my hospital pre-op today

No liquor or smoking 24 hours prior. And I was really hoping for a drinkie the night before. Rats.
They provide NO toiletries-no shampoo, no nothing. Told to bring my own or they will charge me an arm and a leg for it.
I cannot bring my own meds nor can I take my meds the morning of the surgery.
ALL gyn rooms are private-Yippee!
Gotta have the lovely compression pump thingies on my legs the first 24 hours.
I will have to sit up on the edge of the bed that night. Catheter comes out the next morning.
Liquid diet first 24 hours, then if bowel sounds present he'll switch me to something more solid-hopefully like a big mac.
Toenail/fingernail polish-no problem at all.
NO pre-op happy fluid in my iv (boo)-just the iv.
I don't have to WALK to the OR this time-YAY
I think that's about it. Just wanted to let ya'll know how it went for me.

Good pre-op

It sounds good! I was hoping for a glass of wine the night before, if not 2! I don't go for my pre-op til Friday afternoon, and surg is scheduled for Tues am! I hope all the test results come back before then! I need an EKG and blood work and I get to talk with the anethesiologist. Oh, and the hospital called today to tell us that we need to bring $100 with us to the pre-op or the day of the surgery. Apparently even though the insurance says it's ok for me have this surgery, we still have a co-pay and they want it up front! I am appalled. I'm going to tell them to either bill me or they can call the doc and tell her it's cancelled. Unbelievable!:burning:
Yesterday, a person called from my insurance, saying that she was a nurse and asked me if it was okay if we "discussed" my upcoming surgery. They would call again after I was home. WHAT?
Educational, she said.(She obviously does not know about this site, wow! What great info I have found here and "sisters"!)
I said no, I didn't want to participate, she didn't sound happy. She said she wanted to send me some literature, so I said fine, send it. I can always chuck it if I don't want it. Now I have to deal with the insurance company? Anyone else have this happen?
This whole operation is turning into one swift pia.

What I learned from my hospital pre-op today

I have not had the hospital tell me I had to pay my co-pay but my doctors office did and they want $1000.00 at the time of my pre-op appt. I was pretty shocked that they would not even discuss payment plan and just wanted immediate payment. I sure hope the hospital doesn't want money too!! UGH!!
I am so sorry for you, it is so hard to have financial things just sprung on you like that.

1000!

Wow, I am surprised at that! Sounds like highway robbery to me. Do they think that everyone has funds like that just hanging around? (Some may, but not most of us!) How do they know that your insurance will not cover more than that and you would be overpaid? Yikes!

What I learned from my hospital pre-op today

Oh yeah, even though my total out of pocket was reduced to 2000.00 (after nsdh company reimbursement) I deliberately coughed up the 2K to my surgeon as the hospital I will be in is notorious for taking your money and holding it for a YEAR if not longer and will not give it back unless you harass them. Even still, when I did the pre-op yesterday, was informed that I owed the hospital another 500.00 that must be paid on the date of my surgery. Whatever. I'll get the money back from my surgeon within 2 weeks, if there's any left over.
