One week post op

I am one week post op from a davinci robotic hysterectomy w/removal of uterus and cervix. Had my check up yesterday. I had no bleeding at all, which was amazing. He said I am healing very well and can remove the steri strips later this week. The huge concern I have is with these "spasms" I feel in my lower bowel. Been taking dulcolax and mom which has helped a little. He said it could last 4-6 weeks while "everything returns to normal" in my abdomen. Was originally only suppose to be out of work 2 weeks. I cannot imagine having to go back next week and have to sit 8 hours a day. Otherwise I am happy in my decision to have the surgery.

Re: One week post op

Hi Did your DR tell you to take dulcolax? Most DRs tell newly post op women not to take laxatives because they cause bowel contractions which can be very uncomfortable when you're still healing inside - sounds like that's what you are feeling.

Is it possible to get by using just a stool softener instead of the laxatives?

Re: One week post op

Yes, he recommended the dulcolax stool softener. I'm on that and ibuprofen plus my other regular meds. Yesterday he said the milk of mag. was fine. I only took a dose of that when I came home, which was 6 days ago. It did the trick. The pain came afterwards. I've suspected that I may have IBS, but have never been diagnosed. This surgery could have aggravated it.
