What meds were you sent home on?

I can't take percocet for any length of time as it causes me to itch terribly.....so, I usually get sent home on Meperidine which is phenergan and demerol combined. Dr. sent me home on 50 mg. every 6 hours which just is NOT cutting it. I've looked it up and MANY are given 100 mg. every 3 hours. I won't make changes without the dr.'s well-wishes - but was curious about some of you other gals....Gabi

Meperidine is the chemical name of demerol, possibly you got a generic. I'm not aware of any combo of phenergan and demerol but phenergan isn't even readily available in Canada anymore. Not to say it's not available in the U.S. either alone or in combination. 100mg demerol is not excessive by any means. The usual duration of action is 4-6 hours. I had demerol and gravol (dramamine) in the hospital every 6 hours but was sent home on Tylenol #3, which was good enough for me after 3 days. If you're in pain I would call the doctor to get his ok to increase but since it's the weekend, you might have to make your own decision. If you double up and run out early, the doc may not renew your prescription early. Or....on the bright side, you may only need extra meds for a few days. The 800mg motrin with the demerol 50mg might be the boost you need too. Good luck.

I too was having problems with severe itching with the morphine and percocet so they sent me home with Vicodin...1-2 pills every 4-6 hours. I was also taking 3 advil every 6 hours for swelling.

Everyone is different so check with your doctor and ask him/her for another Rx if you are not having good results with your current medication. That's what they are there for...to help you feel better as much as they can!

Best of luck to you in your recovery!

Um

I was sent home with Norco and Tordal which the Tordal I am off now because you can only take it for 5 days so I just use motrin instead. The Norco is like a Vicadin but it has less Tylenol in it so it is easier on the liver.

Hi Kids!
I was sent home with percocet, and stool softeners. I can't take motrin, or asprin, due to Reflux. My doc has had me on so many different things since May ( I had ablasion). I was given loratabs, tylenol III,and now this. I try to only take them at bedtime because I've been on pain med so long I fear addiction.
