Cylical migraines post hyst

I know your pain. I had my hysterectomy in April 08 (both ovaries were removed) and my migraines got worse after. They weren't only coming more often but also a lot more intense. I was on the Estrogen pill so my doctor decided to switch me to the Estrogen gel and that seemed to help. I also cut my dose in half. Was doing 2 pumps a day, now only one and I'm feeling a bit better. Fewer migraines and definitely less intense. That's my experience. Good Luck to you!

Update from the Primary Care appointment today:

I'm on Imitrex Nasal. It works but the taste----bleck!!!!!! Took my pain level from a 6 down to a 3 (still light and sound sensitive though).

My primary care didn't see a need to do a hormone panel...either you're in menopause or you're not in menopause so what is the point of doing a hormone panel. If I have a migraine again, I'm calling up my obgyn and discussing it with her.

I'm off to rest my head.

Yay!! I am glad the pain has at least subsided! I hope you have been able to rest!

I do hope you and your doctors can come up with a plan that works well for you if migraines continue to be an issue.

I have suffered migraines since i was about 10, they would just cripple and make my life unbearable i have taken all the meds under the sun..i was taken imitrex for almost 10 years till the effects were getting just as bad ad the headache. i was up to almost 100 mg but my stomach can not handle it anymore. I noticed the shot i'm allergic too it would make my heart beat so fast and i would almost pass out. the pills would make every bone in my body hurt especially ones that have been injured even my incisions and hair roots, but i am desperate. Not to say the puking fest for 3 hours, but again as long as the headache would go away i delt with it. I was hoping that after my hyster they would get better which they did -but not they come on differently. First the HRT wasnt agreeing so i switched them, its like a on and off button..I have had one for 5 days and just cant function. I did stop my HRT so i figured maybe thats making them worse again. But the cost of them is out of control, if you have insurance you can only get 9 pills a month-sorry i go thru more than those. The other meds i have been trying that havent been too bad are FROVA,RELPAX,ZOMIG, there not too bad the side effects are a little better, but as for the chest tightnening i have been down that route and for i would get anxiety because i got scared then it would be even worse,..I wish they could find some sort of cure for these as these have cost me so much time from my life and family including jobs and finacial. I do have sympathy for all who experiece them, my heart goes out. Just know we are not alone..Thankyou for the info on the generic that is great info, maybe they will be more cost effecient. Have a great night.

Sweetpea, don't know if you have health insurance, but you can sometimes get your doctor to request that you be given more than the 9 pills a month. My doctor filled out a special form from the insurance company so I could get more. I got the strongest dose so I could cut it in half and have twice as many. Usually the 50 mg. Imitrex dose would work for me. Having the Imitrex go generic helps if you have insurance, but not so much if you don't, as the price is still about $175 for the 9 pills of Dr. Reddy 100 mg. generic. The price will likely drop in the future as other manufacturers start making it.

If you prefer the other pills like Relpax, Zomig, etc., often you can get rebates and coupons that are good for your co-pay on this website:
