Swelly belly band

Hi,
I had my TAH on January 18th and I would like to know if the swelly belly band and the abdomenal support system worth investing in. Or is there something I can get at drug store that can serve the same purpose. I am concerned that the staples would start itching.

Re: Swelly belly band

I had my TAH on 12-28-09. I purchased the abdominal binder from this web site. I checked at Wal-mart and they didn't have anything like it. I didn't start wearing mine until after the staples came out (7 days). It has really helped me. I feel more comfortable standing up straight because it doesn't feel like my insides are going to fall out.

If I have a vertical incision does that mean I need the vertical swelly belly band?

Re: Swelly belly band

I would check out the on-line store. I'm not sure if there are different kinds.
You also might want to check with your doctor to see if it's okay to wear while you have staples.

Re: Swelly belly band

They do have different kinds: vertical and horizontal, Queen and Princess. i guess i could always wait and call my doctor on Monday about it. I wanted to get one so that nothing would happen to the staples...I am scared they would come out since I have to have them for one more week. The nurses at the hospital did not act like they were too concerned that they would since they told me to keep it uncovered. I am so confused...

Re: Swelly belly band

I am literally living in my belly band. It makes me not have that "everything falling apart" feeling. If they hadn't given me one I would for sure have bought one, and not regretted it for a second.

Re: Swelly belly band

The bands are awesome. Check with your doc, he may be able to get you one as well. I too have been using mine a lot, and it really has been helping. I got the one with the cool packs, which have been a godsend.
