swimming after TAH

Hello ladies. I had a TAH on July 24th. A few minor complications after, such as urinary tract infection and a yeast infection on the incision site. I am up to slowly walking 3 blocks a week and haven't taken anything for pain in about a week. Am eating healthy, have lost almost 10 pounds, actually doing great, considering everything. Does anyone floated around in a pool after having a hysterectomy? I asked my Dr. about it, and she said no, but then I did a web search and am getting conflicting answers. If all I'm going to do is lay on a float and float around a family pool, what can be the harm in doing that? Any advice? Thanks......

IF the DOCTOR SAYS NO THAN NO!!! If you have already been having infections..it is not a good idea to invite more bacteria. Please listen to your DR.

Happy Healing!!

I had a TVH last summer on june 12th. I asked my doctor the same question and he said that light floating was okay but no real swimming until my check up. I floated in my pool two weeks after and went to the beach july 4th. I did end up getting a vaginal infection. I would follow your doctors orders. I remember how it feels to wait and wait and wait....but be patient.

Im with Tiffany on this one. If the Dr said no than its a big fat NO, you have only one body, take care of it, your body will thank you in the end.

Just don't. Really, if it is something you can avoid doing don't take the chance.

Right now I would love to sit in the tub, but, with all the risks, no way.

The main concern is bacteria getting inside your vagina and causing an infection that is the main reason my DR gave me for not swimming.

I was released to swim today in my own pool only - no public pools or the beach and only if we keep a semi high chlorine count which we do.

Hope this helps - it was raining today however I am hoping to jump in tomorrow.

I'd wait too. You think that you will never get to that 6 week mark but before you know it you make it. I don't think it's worth the risk.

I think it has something to do with keeping the vaginal cuff dry to aid with healing as well. Less likely for infection, if no extra moisture somehow makes its way up there.

Went up to the cottage this weekend, yes, it looked great for swimming, but why take the chance. Especially with the undertow. Now, the anesthetist, she said at around two weeks, she was in Cuba, and she waded up to her mid thighs in the water, it was calm and she wasn't swimming or getting her tuft and tail wet. I found that was funny, one of the things I do remember.
