Depression post-TAH

I am really getting anxious. I think I've been reading and searching too much. I have a history of clinical depression and general anxiety disorder. I don't know if part of it could be hormones but I'm really scared of sinking deeper after the hysterectomy. I'm keeping my ovaries which the doc said they were normal, therefore I see no need in getting rid of them.
Does anyone else have any experiences of depression or increasing anxiety after their TAH? This is probably my biggest fear!
Thanks,
Janie

Date of surgery: Dec 7, 2001 / Adenomyosis

Anxiety....

I do appreciate your thoughts; thanks so much for just talking about them.
I too have had my problems with anxiety and depression. I'm diabetic too, insulin dependent, so I have a PILE of worries on my shoulders prior to my total hysty on 10/22. I'm 3 weeks away and I'm a mess. Besides the pain, pressure, bloating, etc. caused by my large fibroid, I'm also so nauseous I cannot describe it. I don't know whether to call my doctor or just go home and lay down.
I have very real worried about post-op recovery (pain, vomiting, etc.) AND also how I will feel as a woman with depression, a normal sex life (?) and a whole list of other things.
I don't know what to do, how to feel, or even how to plan. Will I need a nurse to stop in and give me my injections twice a day?
I'm a bundle of nerves and I know you are too. Feel free to write me anytime. I'm at work right now and feel sick to my stomach.
I'm so tired of feeling sick.......

Me too!

I, too, suffer from depression and anxiety. I take Wellbutrin with a small dose of Zoloft. I also have Xanax if I get really bad, but rarely take it. This is a big fear of mine as well, so I know where you are coming from. I am keeping my ovaries as well since I am 37. My advice, and what I plan to do, is to just watch yourself and gage how you feel. You will know when you need help and don't hesitate to get it. What I mean is we may need an adjustment in our medication, etc. Also, I am trying to make this a positive experience and look forward to the time off from work! Please write me anytime!

I don't have the answers to your questions spisisficly( sp) but I did want to say that for me I did go thru a bout of depression the first three weeks of my post (I am almost at the 5 wk point)...I was told by my doc and the ladies here that this is normal as the overies we keep shut down for awhile and the ones that are gone don't have any hormones to put out...

However, remember everyone is different and mine only lasted a little while now I'm just **tchy a lot..lol...Make sure you discuss your concerns with your doctors as this really is an important issue for you....have a plan before hand just in case it gets to be to much to handle...

Keep posting...and remember we'll keep a on in post-op for you!!!

Thanks!

Thanks for all of your encouragement and support! I'm really grateful that I've found this site. I'm going to take this one day at a time. keep taking the meds and get the surgery over with in Dec. I'm going to try and keep some humor about all of this because it is reality and a necessity, so why be gloom and doom.
I agree with you, Fran. It's going to be a positive experience and I'm definitely looking forward to the time OFF!!!!!

Thanks again!
Janie
