Pre-op complete and my decision on my ovaries with insight

Good Morning!

I had my pre-op yesterday and I feel much for confident about everything. My Dr. has an excellent plan and I am 100% on board. The only bummer was my blood work did not go well, she couldn't get much blood and so most likely will have to re-do in the coming days. Anyone ever have that? not enough blood came out? lol this is a first for me.

So, the plan is a LAVH- BSO however due to my small mass on my incision & scar tissue concerns, it may turn into a TAH- BSO. I am prepared for either outcome. Since a TAH is possible i have bowel prep, i received a prescription drink name Gavilyte-g. Anyone else use this?

The only uncertainty I had was my ovaries. I do have a cyst on each & my maternal Grandmother died of Ovarian cancer. I was starting to sway keeping them vs removing them. Today a friend mentioned her recent troubles with pain/bleeding after 3 years post Hysterectomy where they left only the ovaries.Hearing this in this moment sealed it for me......I do not want to find myself in that position. I do not want the possibility of another surgery or cancer. I'm grateful because I feel peace with know exactly what I want to do now! I am a true believer in the universe and the messages we receive.

To keep or not to keep our ovaries is very personal and obviously everyone is different, has their own story and so needs to make their own best educated decision. I just wanted to share as I see this topic so frequently on THE PRE-OP forum

Dear GG

I am so happy you are at peace with your decision. As you said, you will be the one dealing with the consequences of keeping your ovaries. It must be such a relief for you to have confidence in finalizing this decision.

As for the additional blood work, I've heard of that better - I'm glad your doctor us being thorough.

I don't remember the name of my bowel prep...but I suggest chugging it down with ice!

Hugs and best of luck on your upcoming surgery.

I'm glad you're feeling confident with your decision. It's much better going into surgery knowing that you made the best decision for you. I had mine out also. I had had cysts, was 58 and figured that they weren't doing that much good, and had a very good friend dying of ovarian cancer. I watched what she went through, and just didn't want to take a chance. If I had been younger, I might have made a different decision, but I don't regret my decision and think it was the best for me.
