As The Song Says....The Drugs Dont Work

Although surgery was a success (womb removed in tact, full of fibroids, ovaries healthy and left with cervix) I had rather a horrific time that I'm starting to come to terms with.
Apparently I nearly woke four times during surgery and at one stage was murmuring. They managed to keep me under but in recovery I woke to a pain I have never experienced before even in childbirth. After several shots of morphine the pain was getting worse, not better and panic was setting in for the nurses. From what I could make out another hospital had been contacted for advice.
Eventually they did find something to ease the pain but then I stopped breathing approx. 10 times just to really scare them.
Apparently my body took immunity to morphine and other drugs and one Doctor thinks that the taking of Tramadol over a long period of time caused this.No one seems to know if this immunity is a blip or will continue and we wont know unless I'm in that position again.
So apparently its rare and I was the first in this hospital.
I'm not bitter as its no ones fault.
Since 2 days after surgery I have had no pain only bladder spasms that are more uncomfortable and some stiffness. Its actually great to be painkiller free after such along while.
Had a few days that I felt total despair and this absolutely shocked me,especially as I have kept my ovaries but my mood is improving everyday.
I have had a sexual urge, especially the last 5 days, like nothing on Earth and I never expected that but have my legs crossed and keeping hubby at arms length (he is too scared anyway.....think at the all clear he will still be reluctant because of the horror stories we have read)
Energy levels are slowly returning and Im not sleeping as much now.Could get use to this not doing any housework though.

How scary! I remember when I read online that there is an extremely rare chance that you could wake up during surgery and feel everything but not be able to speak or scream and It gave me nightmares. It sounds like something from a horror movie. I know your experience wasn't as severe, but wow, you poor thing. So glad you are okay! Take care and see you around this site.

Wow!!! that's all I can say 'cause they'll blank out what I really want to say. I can understand why you'd have a hard time coming to terms with this. I took tramadol for a long time too but this didn't happen during my surgery. I'm glad you made it through. On a lighter note, I really have to laugh ; I got every other bloody side effect EXCEPT for the sexual urge one!! Darn!!!
Good to know your mood is improving, that helps the recovery a lot. Good luck xxx
