Nervious about surgery
Hello all...I am new to this site so please bear with me during my learning curve....LOL
I will be having TAH on FEb 25th and I have no clue what to expect. I have an ovarian cyst that will be removed and due to excessive, heavy periods this has lead me to surgery.
It is not so much being put under, as it is not being able to know what i will and will not be able to do. My DR tells me that a two day hospital stay is likely, but to me that seems not long enough for a TAH. I mean I will have an incision and stitchs. With my gall bladder surgery i was in for 7 days. What is typical for a hospital stay.
Any advice will be appreciated on how to deal with this....
God bless to all....M

Nervous about surgery
Hello, MelissaL and
We're happy you joined the Hyster Sisters community! We hope that we can make your hysterectomy experience a little easier - don't forget that the members have unlimited hugs to dispense in all stages in your journey to good health! And, if you haven't already done so, I suggest you visit the Checkpoints section of the site, which you can access from the lavender bar at the top of the page. I believe it would be of great assistance to you!
I was in the hospital 3 days for my TAH/BSO. From what I have read here on the Hyster Sisters site, that length of hospitalization seems about average for that type of surgery. You are a lot younger than I was when I had my surgery, and if you're in excellent health otherwise maybe your doctor thinks you could go home after two days. I guess time will tell!
Many s and Best Wishes to You!

Nervous about surgery
MelissaL
I had a TAH 12-27. I stayed at the castle for 3 nights. I felt awful in the hospital (not to scare you but the truth), within 8 hours of returning home I felt sooooo much better. I could get up and move from bed to recliner or whatever. I was tired of being in the hospital bed so it was much more comfortable at home plus I was glad to be around my family who took great care of me. I started doing little things during week 2 as I felt I could handle them. I was picking up the kids at school or washing a few dishes, etc. Yes, I was tired after but not in pain (YEAH!!) It made me mentally happy... I told the DR at my 2 week appt. he told me to watch the lifting and no hanky panky but that I could EASE into other things which I did. I am 5 weeks out and feel good, no problems, no pain, just tired more than usual. I am back to 95% of my normal routine. Good Luck to you!
