TAH scheduled- have colitis

Am scheduled for surgery on 8/13 and have been read board nightly but haven't see this addressed. Has anyone had TAH with active colitis. I've asked the doctor what impact this may have on my colitis and he responds that it won't. My colitis doctor had a few comments about needing additional steroids and asked that I have doctor call him. In several messages people talk about the surgery impacting their intestinal track. This is causing me additional stress. Thanks for any info.

Wow, I wish I could help you here, but I have no idea if this will affect your colitis or not. I do know it takes most of us a few weeks for the bowel to get back to normal after surgery.

I am bumping you back up to the top - anyone out there have any wisdom on this topic?

Emily - I'm trying to find someone that knows something about colitis. While I'm doing that...please use search engine - located at the top and search by keyword "colitis"...that will give you some posts to read while waiting.

I didn't have colitis (I know that's much worse than IBS) but I did have IBS and it actually got better after tah/bso - please let us know what your colitis doctor recommends for your treatment.

TAH scheduled- have colitis

Had surgery on 8/13. Colitis was not really a factor, except while I was on antibiotics. After that, things have been quiet and my healing has been pretty much on schedule.

TAH scheduled- have colitis

Emily,
I have crohns and had a tvh, I also was worried about it. My Dr prescribed Ibuprofen with Vicodin on my release. I wasnt thinking straight at the time and just took the pills my dh gave me. The ibuprofen gave me a flair up.. I was fine up to that point.. I got it under control after a few days and was ok after that. Just make sure to stay away from anything that is a trigger for you. I thought the presurgery stress would give me a flair but it didnt... So yes it would be a good idea to have both Drs working together.
