Back from the Castle
Hi ladies,
I got back from the castle on Sat from my TAH-BSO and am taking it easy, i'm still having quite a bit of pain.
All went well with the surgery but the pain was a bit more than I'd anticipated. It'll get better as time goes by, though. I overdid things a bit yesterday.
The nurses were great and I was well taken care of. The tummy pillow is a MUST for anyone having TAH. I didn't bring a lot with me to the castle and that all worked out well. They had me up and walking the day after surgery and the more of that you do the better.
Being home is a little rough without that nice hospital bed! Rolling over on my side is not fun! But I am so relieved to have this over with and know it was the best decision I could have made. Now I can just settle into recovery and get back on my feet again.
BTW, I mentioned this site to my dr. and she was most interested!

So glad you are home and doing well. I am also glad to hear you are going to take it easy and let your body heal properly.
Get plenty of rest, drink lot's of fluids and short walks. Come visit in chat when you are up to it.

I came home on Sat. too, after my SAH on Wednesday. Everything you wrote is so true. It was much easier with a hospital bed- I usually have someone in my family gently pull me up while I use my leg muscles. How do you possibly get onto your side? Doesn't the incision pull and burn? Let me know because aside from not passing gas or having a bowel movement, the getting out of bed is the hardest for me. Are you still on pain meds? I try to take percocet once or twice a day- it really does take an edge off the sharp pain and let me sleep for a couple of hours at a time. Good luck with your recovery. It's so comforting to be able to communicate with people who have been through and are going through just what I am!

Yes getting out of bed is painful. I mainly just roll onto one side and sit up from there. I am sure once more healing takes place it will be less painful.
I still have my staples in and because I'm overweight and have an "overhang" my dr. has me using gauze over the incision line to help keep it clean & dry to avoid infection. I noticed today the incision area and surrounding areas are pink but I don't have a fever so maybe that's just part of the healing process.
I'm using percocet to help with the pain and my says I can take Ibuprofen too but even with that I have a fair amount of pain. It's only a week tomorrow so I'm hoping the healing will take care of the pain very soon.
I have to go out tomorrow and Fri to the dr but someone else is driving. I'll bring my tummy pillow and hope my driver avoids the potholes! I'm just dropping insurance forms off at my dr. office tomorrow and Fri I go get the staples removed.
I know this will get better!
