hysterectomy vs. progestin therapy

Hello,

I'm new here; I'm in the process of figuring out whether to go with drugs or go with a hysterectomy. I'm 43 years old, and I've been diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia. I've had pretty heavy bleeding off and on since September especially after all the exams. I had a biopsy done, and it came out normal; I need to call my doctor tomorrow and find out exactly what that means.

One of my close relatives who is a nurse recommended going with a hysterectomy just to take care of it permanently.

I thought I could go with a vaginal hysterectomy, but my uterus is too enlarged to go that route...that means much more healing time.

I am scheduled for a hysterectomy Jan. 29th, of this year. I just want to make sure it's the right thing. I don't want to have to keep going again and again back to the doctor's office.

I am so torn; I love to jog and have a weight program. It's going to be a long recovery from what I've checked up on it.

Can anyone give me advice?

hysterectomy vs. progestin therapy

Welcome to HysterSisters!

Personally, I would suggest a second opinion with another physician before having surgery. A hysterectomy is a major surgery and it is one that is not without risks. I, myself, had numerous complications that led to a very lengthy recovery (months, not weeks) and compromised my health for years keeping me in one doctor's office after another! Other ladies on the site have found that they traded one set of problems for a different, worse set of problems!

Yes, there are many women who have a hysterectomy for one reason or another and they do well. But there is no way to know prior to surgery if you will be a success story or not. Thus I feel it is very important for all women to be sure they have completely weighed their pros and cons to determine if the hysterectomy is the best route for them and that they are prepared for the worst if it happens. Unless you are 100% this is the right path for you, take some more time to make your decision.

I do wish you the best for whatever is right for you! Read through the site, check out our Resource Database, reweigh your pros and cons, check out the options and alternatives available for you, and then do what is right for you! S
