drinking before surgery

I wanted to know if anyone has any information on how many days before your surgery you can have alcohol? They are having a little get together and I wouldn't mind a drink or two but my surgery is on Tuesday. Any answers would be great!

drinking before surgery

My doctors office sent a list of herbal medications, prescription meds, and no alcohol 2 weeks before surgery. I'm sure they are all different. If you want a drink give the office a call and ask. It can't hurt. Come to think of it I could sure use one right about now. The cramps are horrible today.

Call your doctor's office to be sure. My dr said no alcohol 24 hours before surgery, but before that it was fine. I think every dr is a litle different. I had my surgery on a Tuesday as well. I went out for drinks with co-workers on Friday before, and had a couple of drinks with dinner with my dh on Saturday. I had no problems, and going out with co-workers helped take my mind off of things.
I'll be thinking of you on Tuesday - hope it all goes well!

I had a drink the day before surgery...I had no issues.

When in doubt, check with your doctor. Good luck and best wishes to you.

a little alcohols ok, followed by tons of fluids

My friends and family have arranged a surprise party for me on a Saturday nite, (my surgery is schedualed for a Monday). Doctor said that was fine, not to do it up to excess, and he see's no problem with it.

I'm actually not looking forward to a big bash, would mean more to me if we did it a couple months after my surgery when I'm feeling up to it. A nice glass or two of wine shared with a couple friends surrounded by pillows in the livingroom feels more inviting, than a big hurrah with everyone, but it's more a gesture than anything, and I will do my best to sit surrounded by pillows with a smile. I know they don't expect me to do the limbo.
I'm sure you can relate!
Enjoy a couple glasses of something, just remember that alcohol can be extremely dehydrating, so drink plenty of fluids to replace what your body is missing!

Enjoy!

drinking before surgery

My hospital called prior to my surgery and said 48 hours. So it appears to be different everywhere.

They said it was a surprise party for a coworker, but when I looked up in my address book, her birthday isn't for another month,
and everyone kept asking me if I was going, did I need a ride, what time was I going to get there, ect.
Then mom finally slipped up and said "your party, I mean HER party"...
lol finally I asked hubby, and he confessed, but I'm not going to spoil everyones surprise, they've worked hard on the party, and I'm going to try and do everything I can to make it worth their while,
I don't know if I'll be up to drinking, I'm not a big drinker, but am planning on eating, and eating, and eating,. lol
I'm bringing the pasta salad,
sure wish I knew you all personally, would be wonderful to have you all there!

Well just don't spoil what they think is a surprise by telling that you know! Enjoy and have fun. I was at a party the day before mine, and all my doc said was to "eat lightly".
