Re: how long will i be in the hospital

Mine was slightly different, didn't remove everything but they said it was out patient. I did stay overnight, however, in what they called 24 hour observation. On phone call from the hospital said it was a possibility, but from the minute I got there on the day of surgery it was never in question since I had catheter until next morning and doctor wanted this 24 hour observation. And I didn't really have any complications at all smooth surgery with just a little issue with breathing the resolved soon. Complications came after I left hospital. My suggestion is ask and make sure they give you a straight answer because obviously outpatient doesn't necessarily mean you won't spend the night.

Re: how long will i be in the hospital

I had a LAVH on tuesday. My surgery was done in an outpatient surgery center instead of a hospital. My surgery took about 90 minutes and I spent 6 hours in recovery. I spent so much time in recovery because I couldn't pee. They said as soon as I could pee I could go home. I am so glad I had this done my pain after surgery has been about the same level as my cramps were before.

Re: how long will i be in the hospital

From what I'm reading it has a lot to do with the dr's preferences and your health. I have med allergies, a complicated med that interacts with everything, and a history of an anesthesia reaction. I also am extremely limited on meds for pain control. The first 3 buy me at least 24 hours; last year 36 so that's what I'm expecting. However pain management may add on a day this time because I'm probably going to be on morphine longer than typical since my pain management options are so limited.

One surgeon's office that posted their pre-op online said they were "starting to" send most patients home the same day after TLH. So that makes a difffernce too.
