When does the gas go away?

It is day 5 and I am still getting horrible gas pain every time I eat or drink. I am taking metamucil, phazyme, colace (constipation isn't a big issue anymore) and getting more soluble bulk fiber in my diet as well as eating fruits and veggies (and drinking lots of water). But every time I eat, the gas comes back. How long will this go on? I really needed a nap this afternoon, but my tummy wasn't having any of it. I don't like taking medications and would love to be able to not rely on anything for relief.

Re: When does the gas go away?

Try a heating pad. The nurse showed me that my stay in the hospital. She heated up a saline bag and it did wonders. I have a neck wrap here at home and it was my best friend. I would heat it up in the microwave lay it on my belly. It really does work. Good luck! My surgery was june 27 and my last gas pain was during this past weekend. Im sorry to hear you are still suffering and I hope my idea works. I still use it for my discomfort.

Re: When does the gas go away?

No straw-didn't think of that. I have a giant mug that I keep filled with water and that the only way I drink out of it, with a straw! Makes sense not to use one. Heating pad didn't help a whole lot, although it sure felt good on my sore muscles. Took advil pm and slept better than I have since surgery and passed a lot of gas after getting up to relieve myself. I'm just not a patient patient. I've been walking on my street and went to the grocery store 2 days in a row (with my daughter doing the driving and cart filling). I wonder if I'm doing too much and my muscles are tense enough to be constricting my intestines? Perhaps the heating pad did work in that regard.

Re: When does the gas go away?

You may be doing a little too much, but that shouldnt be keeping gas in. Have you tried a suppository? That is what the dr told me to try if I got to gassy and bloated. Im sorry the heat did not work. Try not using the straw and try and rest. Someone told me that we need to give ourselves permission to heal. I havent left the house yet! I dont just lay around though, we still need to walk so you doing good by that. I hope you find something to relieve your pains. If I think of something else, i will let you know. Happy Healing

Re: When does the gas go away?

Yesterday was my best day so far. A regimine of metamucil, oatmeal, stool softener and prune juice have really been helping. I woke yesterday with gas pain so severe it felt like menstrual cramps, but the day went much better. I still get gas everytime I eat, but it is down lower and I am able to pass it easier. My mantra is patience, patience, patience!!
