Body aches, chills, hot flashes, insomnia

Hi everyone! My name is Heather and I had a vaginal hysterectomy on 08/12/13. Last year, I had my Fallopian tubes removed because of pain caused from getting Essure coil implants. I was able to keep both ovaries after my hysterectomy, but I'm wondering if my hormones are still going nuts somehow. I could only sleep for 1-2 hours last night, my entire body feels achy, and I'm having chills and then hot flashes. I'm miserable!!! I have always bounced back from surgery quickly, so I'm not sure if this is all from the hysterectomy or not. I have been extremely tired this week, but the other symptoms began last night. Has anyone else had any of these problems? I'm one month post surgery. Thanks in advance!

Re: Body aches, chills, hot flashes, insomnia

Sometimes your ovaries can go into shock and take awhile to wake up after this. I know there is an article somewhere on this website about that. They took my ovaries, so I had these symptoms too but got some hormone replacement for them in the form of a cream, but i remember reading about that here. Also, the fatigue is no normal and lasts awhile. Just rest and it should go away at about 6 to 8 weeks. It varies from person to person greatly, however. You can ask doc at your next visit about these symptoms. I hope you get relief soon!

Re: Body aches, chills, hot flashes, insomnia

I talked to my doc about this just yesterday. She said that by 8 weeks the ovaries should be functioning at whatever their new baseline is. She said she could give me something now, but I opted to wait the full 8 weeks to see where things stand then. I was getting night sweats before surgery, but now get lots of hot flashes too. At 51, I my ovaries are pretty tired, but they were nice and healthy so we decided to leave them in.

A possibly dumb questions, but how's your temp? We expect all of these symptoms because of the hormonal stuff, but is it possible you're coming down with something?

I'm 4 weeks out and I freeze to death for a bit and then the hot flashes start!

My surgery was done the same day as yours and I am having the same problems. I had a bladder sling and posterior repairs done also. I am taking Premarin (1week) I have been miserable.
