Dizziness after surgery

I am 4weeks post op and I am experiencing a constant feeling of "car sickness" when not in the car. I feel dizzy, light headed, and sick to my stomach every time I move around the house. Is this normal? I am no longer taking my strong pain meds, just on ibuprofen for pain. What can I do to get rid of this awful feeling?

I have moved your thread here to Post Op so you can receive personal replies.

There can be a number of reasons for feeling dizzy so I would suggest you keep a symptom diary and talk to your doctor. You may be anemic and need iron treatment. You could be dehydrated from not drinking enough. Your diet may have changed enough to cause some blood sugar issues. The problem could be hormones. Your blood pressure might be acting up. Your thyroid may be the culprit. Or it could be a combination of issues or something else entirely.

In my case, it was a combination of anemia, dehydration, low blood sugar, and blood pressure issues.

Re: Dizziness after surgery

I had some similar symptoms that started after week 1. Surgeon suggested I contact mt primary care which I did. I have had vertigo in the past, usually associated with ear or sinus infections, etc. This time there is no ear or sinus infection, and the dr. prescribed meclizine to be taken as needed, with the caveat that I take one full dose at bedtime. Meclizine makes me exhausted and do I stay in bed more, which sometimes can make me dizzy. I'm still experiencing the vertigo symptoms and am trying to be up and about as much as possible today, and am planning on not taking the meclizine tonight to see if I'm just stuck in a vicious cycle.

I would definitely call your doctor so you can be checked out. My surgeon and doctors office did run a battery of blood and urine work to ensure there was no Internal bleeding or any other issues.

Re: Dizziness after surgery

I was hit with a nasty case of vertigo after surgery, probably caused by lying down so much. I tried the Epley maneuvers and took Gravol.
