Bladder pain

I'm almost 4 wks. post-op and am nearly pain free except when I go to the bathroom. Then it feels like my bladder is being wrung out when I urinate. Is that typical?

Re: Bladder pain

Hi Madame
I don't think so. Some women have bladder spasms that continue for a while, but if you haven't talked to your dr about this I think you should call and make sure you don't have a bladder infection. If these are just spasms there might be medication that would help you deal with them.

I had some pain in my bladder too, but the only time it hurt when I urinated was when there was a UTI present. Let us know what you find out. I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Bladder pain

I am 2 weeks post op and I still feel like my bladder is being pulled out. I am on antibiotics for an incision infection but one that would also cover a UTI. Unfortunately, I have had no improvement with the bladder. My doctor told me that this happens because of bladder swelling. Some people have tried taking Detrol but that causes constipation so I am afraid to do that. I was hoping by 4 weeks this would be gone. I would talk to your doctor to get a culture to make sure you do not have a UTI.

Re: Bladder pain

Call your dr....When I was 6 days post op I had been running a low grade fever for 24 hours....my dr. saw me immediately and I had an acute kidney infection and spent another 4 days in the hospital on 3 IV antibiotics and came home on 2 antibiotics by mouth. My dr. worked for an hour removing scar tissue from my bladder during my surgery...but we think I may have been at the beginning of a UTI and it just wasn't showing up yet. I still have bladder spasms but not as often. I hope you feel better!

Re: Bladder pain

I'm two weeks post-op and having a similar problem. I have a long history of kidney stones and UTIs, but this doesn't feel like an infection. It feels like tugging or pressure on the bladder, more of a muscle issue than burning on urination.

Re: Bladder pain

I am also having similar problems. Had TAH on 5-13-09 and today I am beginning to wish I didn't. My stomach feels extremely bloated an HURTS alot. I hate still needing to take pain pills(I usually can put up with alot of pain). What this to just stop hurting......want to do something other than nothing for a change.

Re: Bladder pain

Check with your doctor to make sure its not a UTI. I had the same thing at 6 weeks and still sometimes do. My doctor said I was having bladder spasms because no infection was present. Also, make sure you're drinking plenty of water.
