Upcoming hysterectomy 7/14: Nervous

I'm having my hysterectomy July 14 And I am very nervous. I haven't bought anything yet, I know it will be here before I know it

I know the feeling Veronica1976 , my surgery is on Wednesday July 6th , and I am consumed with fear. I know some are rational fears but some are completely irrational. I can't wait to have it over, I am totally sick of worrying about it. What are you talking about when you say you haven't bought anything yet ? Just curious.

I'm having mine on 7/13 and so far I've bought some loose clothing, things for my hospital bag (like Ricola drops, lip balm and the like) and my Hibicleanse and the lovely recommended Fleet enema. But that's it. I've been dithering about the pillow for my tummy, because there's a frugal part of me that thinks I can just borrow one of my kids' many stuffed animals for that purpose!

I totally understand! Mine is in a week. I've been pretty calm up until now but I'm really starting to panic today. I haven't bought anything yet either.

Your feelings, fears, emotions and anxiety are all normal. This is one difficult surgery to face and digest.

Make a list from most important to least important of what needs to be done before surgery. What gets done gets done, and let the rest go. Either someone else can do it or it can wait until you feel better. To help out, here are 10 Tips for Preparing for Your Hysterectomy.

What I found most useful were the following:
-Meals in the freezer that can be popped in the microwave
-Easy foods for breakfasts and lunches
-Loose fitting clothing
-Small pillow to hold against your tummy for coughs and sneezes
-Recovery corner with pillows and blankets
-Super clean your house (you will not be doing that for a while)
-Get your hair cut so you do not have to sit in those chairs until well after your surgery

I had 10 days between being told I needed a hysterectomy and being in the OR, so I know what you are going through.

I noticed that your surgery date in your profile is incorrectly listed as July 18. To change this date to July 14, click on "PROFILE- HYST DATE" at the bottom of your screen and change the date where indicated.

Just make sure to get your date into your profile so after your surgery you can switch over to the post-op forum. Otherwise our system will not let you on there.

I took a day before my surgery, actaully is was the day of my preop appt and after that appt I went shopping for things I thought I would need. A few dress that were a few sizes larger and pajamas that were larger sizes as well. I enjoyed the day, it was relaxing and I felt a little more prepared for surgery.
