Is it PMDD or is it me?
I've been diagnosed with PMDD (severe). Dr.said this is it, research on my own says this is it, history of my family says this is it. Reading these posts definitely says this is it. My PMDD is bad enough that I have surgery scheduled 11/10/04 for hysterectomy with ovary removal.(this decision has been made after all other options have failed). I know in my heart this is what I NEED and I WANT. But, every once in a while I freak myself out and say what if this doesn't help. What if I am so far gone and have become such a monster that this is now my way of thinking and acting. I wonder if I will need counseling to try and learn a new way to live. Will the hormone change from the removal of my ovaries be enough for me to let me live a normal happy life? I get so bad with the PMDD that I really believe it's hopeless and this must just be the way I am - even tho I cant stand how it is. If you've had the hyst. has it helped you, did you ever feel this hopeless?
I am counting my days, minutes, and seconds!

Is it PMDD or is it me?
I felt totally hopeless and had my TAH/BSO 13 months ago for PMDD.
5% of all menstrating women suffer from this mood disorder. I tried in vain to manage this for 15 years.
It is not just mood swings, it is total hostility, pain, depression and guilt. Plus all ALL of the physical symptoms of PMS.
I was getting 7-10 good days a month.
I'm free of all of that now, am 33 lbs lighter in weight - finally in control and feel 26 instead of my real age of 46. What a difference.
It has been a journey like no other in my life.
I'm grateful and blessed to be finally "together".
I absolutely understand your pain.
I wish you well in your decision.
Sincerely
L&T

Is it PMDD or is it me?
Thanks for responding. I have 15days til surgery (11/10). I pretty much blew it again last night (my top that is). I need to do some serious self-control. There should be a support site for the significant others that are on the receiving end of this. I'm glad things are going well for you. This month has been the worst month for me ever. I hope my success is as great as yours.

How long after your surgery did you actually start to feel the difference in yourself? Did you feel like there was a major weight lifted or was it gradual and one day you realized that , hey, I haven't yelled or had a fit in a while?

Is it PMDD or is it me?
That is a really good question! I felt so wonderful in the hospital post surgery, I felt I made the best decision, very positive about my decision to have my SAH/BSO.
I had also made the decision to not have any HRT. That was proved to be impossible. Hot flashes, night sweats and depression. Had salivary testing and I take progesterone.
All is well, with the exception of the "unresolved anger" that I just did not address for many years with my PMDD. My DH is an alcoholic (sober now). Myself and our DS's went through a very traumatic time while he was drinking. My anger with him and the mistress he had (the alcohol) while drinking has hurt me immensely. I only figured the whole thing out during menopause,
I still get angry with him, it just seems that my brain will not forgive.
He is the only one I still spit nails at. BUT this time I know why I'm doing it. We are talking about going to counselling, I really want to leave the past behind about my hurt.
The unresolved issues have to be paid attention to....the hostility will still be there.
I have no regrets about my surgery. The positives are huge, but be aware of those personal issues that are eating at you.
Difficult ...but worth it for all the love that is yet to be with you and yours.

Is it PMDD or is it me?
lovethesun;
I don't know if you've read the posts on "Free of PMDD" since you've been there last. I've added 4 or 5 emails that were sent to me for others to view and get reassurance from as I did. These ladies are wonderful, they have had their surgeries strictly for PMDD and I have their email addresses if you would like to email me to get them I know they would be able to help you as they have helped me. I totally understand the thinking you've mentioned "maybe it's just me, maybe that's just the person that I am". Since I've started the Lupron shots I know that it's not just me, even though I haven't had my second shot yet which is when you really notice the difference. The "Free of PMDD" thread is on it's second page now, so anyone interested be sure to click page 2 in order to read all the posts that are there. And lovethesun, I know EXACTLY how you are feeling, if you would like to speak with others that have had the surgery I've been able to locate some wonderful ladies that can help - send me an email if you'd like their emails. For any other readers that have had surgery for PMDD please post on the "Free of PMDD" thread as well, I'd like to make that thread as informative as possible for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder for all us current sufferers and any new members with PMDD.
Lovethesun: hang in there I'm very confident that this will help you feel like a new women, I have not yet once read a feedback of a woman with PMDD still having it after they have removed their Ovaries. I am thinking of you, sending you best wishes and know that you'll be great posting messages after your surgery saying that it's the best thing that you could have done for yourself and your family.
Lots of love, I know exactly how you're feeling. JOSIE

Is it PMDD or is it me?
Love the Sun -
I have had a hyst and coming up on 5 years. I had the first partial hyst on December 7, 1999 and then had to have an emergency surgery 5 months later to complete the hyst. The first procedure was done laproscopically/vaginally and the emergency one was done abdominally. The only reason I had a hyst done is that I had exhausted all alternatives (D&C, laproscopic laser surgery, male hormones to suppress my monthly cycle). All in all, I had 16 surgeries prior to the partial hyst and then the full hyst. I had a 5 month period of having the surgery scheduled and went through crying jags, bouts of irrational anger, etc. but once I had it done and had recovered, I felt so much better. I had totally forgotten what it was like to be me. The surgery helped me tremendously and though I still have lapses in my emotions, but it has been the best thing I have ever done for me.
The biggest thing I did was talk to my doctor about HRT and NHRT and did a lot of research so I could regain some control over it. It helped me get through it all.
I wish you all the luck in the world.

Is it PMDD or is it me?
Thanks for your support everyone! I will check out the thread on Free of PMDD as soon as I finish my response. I am at 9 days (Nov. 10)and counting. I see my DR. tomorrow for my pre-op. I told my mom today that maybe this was all just in my head... I feel fine now, and maybe I don't need the surgery (I'm over my period and feeling good now!!!) My mother proceeded to tell me that if I cancelled the surgery there would be a line of people waiting to walk me down the surgery hall! I was just kidding with her, I'm actually very excited to do this. I will keep in touch and let you know how it is going. I will also post a response on the Free of PMDD thread and offer any support that I can to anyone else. love the sun
