Fibroid - So how big was yours?

My uterus was the size of a 20 week pregnant uterus.

After it was removed, it was almost the size of a basketball. From the pictures, 2 of the fibroids were cantelope size and there were smaller ones.

I had to have a myomectomy to remove them before the uterus was removed to avoid a larger incison. I did have a vertical incison from just below my navel to right above my pubic hair line. I lost over a liter of blood in surgery.

I am doing very well at this point and none of the post op pain came anywhere close to what I experienced every month with my periods.

Glad it is over with. This is truly a new, painfree life for me.

Fibroid - So how big was yours?

I had one single fibroid the size of a grapefruit. It had grown several centimeters from the time of my ultrasound to the time of my surgery (2 months) It occupied the left side of my fundus and I think that is why my incision is lopsided. It's like the doctor thought he could get away with a smaller incision and then had to cut futher on the left side to get it out. So my belly has kind of a lopsided grin! I don't know the weight but he said my uterus was 4X the size of normal.

Fibroid - So how big was yours?

I do not know the actual size other than what was on my pathology report, which was "small intramural fibroid"... amazing to me that something described as small could reek so much havoc.

Fibroid - So how big was yours?

When I was diagnosed with fibroids (2 months) before my hyst., the sonogram showed I had at least 4 large fibroids, the biggest being the size of a grapefruit. And I never even knew I HAD fibroids until that time. I had a colonoscopy in early May (unrelated to gyn problems---just diagnostic) and the large fibroid showed up in 2 of THOSE photos, sticking out and blocking over half of my lower colon in one part (that fibroid was at the back!

My surgery was difficult for my doctor and took over 2.5 hours. My uterus was "huge" (her words) and was the size of a soccer ball! Everything was pushing towards the back, so she had been worried about it all compromising my kidneys and ureters and took care during the surgery to check on all their functions. My dr. sure is "patient oriented", as even with my huge uterus and difficult positioning, she kept to a 5 inch, very low bikini incision. Uterus was cut up in pieces.

Anyway, this week I got copies of my surgical and path reports, as well as pre-op history and physical. Most interesting to read. The total weight of my uterus was 466 grams, which, when converted, is about 1.25 pounds. I also had 2 big cysts on each ovary. I'm thankful everything was benign, though. And I'm SOOOO glad to have all that OUT of me!

Yeah! I am glad you had a great walk! The world outside the door is a beautiful thing!

Fibroid - So how big was yours?

12cm when scanned last November - after operation, registrar said it had grown much bigger than they thought it would have since then ... hmmm ... leave it for seven months and surprise, surprise, it gets bigger!
Apparently, it was very comfy inside my womb, nestling itself onto my cervix and deciding it wanted to stay. It was decribed as 'sticky' and they had a bit of a tussle to remove it all.
Bit peeved that I have a lump on the right which hurts - other than that, have made a much better recovery than I was led to believe. Even went to Stuttgart to watch a World Cup match!

Fibroid - So how big was yours?

Tho I'd been told by a couple of Gyn's that I had multiple fibroids and a 10-12 week uterus, when I got the report back from the surgery I only had 1 fibroid and it was only a couple of centimeters. So why the heavy bleeding and PAINful periods??? The big issue turned out to be severe andenomysis, which I guess isn't dignosed often until after the uterus is removed and the path is done on it. So the bulk of the 1 lb uterus was the result of severe adenomysis and not fibroids. In either case I'm glad it is gone! No more PAIN or worring about the PAIN that was going to hit every 4 weeks! Yippeeeeee!
