Antibiotics and "reactions"

I have allergies to certain antibiotics. My Surgeon knows this, and he is willing to go with a certain antibiotic that doesn't give me problems with hives or worse.

The only problem is when I take this antibiotic I get a yeast infection. Sounds silly, but does anyone out there know if yeast infections are still possible once my cervix is gone? I plan on asking my doctor this on my next visit, I thought I would ask here first. It's the last thing I want to have happen while I am still healing.

Thanks ladies!

Unfortunatly, yes you can still get yeast infections. Just tell your dr. about that , since a lot of women get yeast infections when they take antibiotics. They can prescribe a medication to take orally for this problem at the same time as the antibiotics.

If you don't want to take another "medication",
increase your acidophylus with yogurt and milk with it added.

Thank You!

I knew it would be too good to be true.

I have taken acidophylus before traveling to other countries to keep the "montezuma's revenge" at bay, never thought of it for yeast infections!

The information here is wonderful! Thanks again!

Bjr,
I had a TVH, with BSO and cervix removed, and I have had several yeast infections since then. I had also heard the myth that one could not get a yeast infection with no cervix - and was really hoping it was true! Gosh darnit. hehe.

If you let your doctor know that this abx gives you a yeast infection, tell your surgeon and in pre-op they can give you some diflucan, or they can put the diflucan in your IV. Ask for a several day round just to make sure that you don't get the yeast infection.

If you don't want the diflucan - though it does work well - you can take the acidophylus like others said, or you can take AZO Yeast pills before surgery and post op to help ward off the yeast infection.

Just be sure and tell your surgeon of ALL medications you are on - Perscription or OTC. They need to know about them. A lot of ppl don't mention OTC pills/herbs/supplements, but they are just as important to put on your forms as perscription medications.

Good luck and I really hope you don't get yeasties!

Yes, be careful ! I also had an allergic reaction to my antibiotic that I was given before surgery. I broke out in hives and felt like I was suffacating.
I have never had a allergic reation until then.
